(NLDO)- Local authorities quickly traced the source to find the cause, and the results of a quick test of the remaining wine sample showed positive for Methanol.

On December 22, the People's Committee of Ward 11, Vung Tau City (Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province) reported on the verification of the suspected alcohol poisoning case that hospitalized 4 people.

According to verified information, at around 6:00 p.m. on December 19, 6 people came to eat at the QT snakehead fish noodle shop (30-4 Street, Ward 11) and drank 4 bottles of wine (500ml/bottle).

After drinking, all 6 people went home feeling tired and did not vomit. The next day, 4 people were tired but still went to work. At 5:00 p.m. on December 21, they were all taken to the emergency room in a state of fatigue and difficulty breathing. One case developed convulsions and cardiac arrest, but was resuscitated and had a heart attack.

Patients were taken to the emergency room at Vung Tau hospital.

Initial test results showed severe metabolic acidosis, initial diagnosis "Monitoring for Methanol poisoning". At 7:00 p.m. the same day, 4 patients were prescribed continuous dialysis.

According to information from Vung Tau hospital, of the 4 patients, KS (born in 2000) is in a coma and has a poor prognosis. The remaining patients are stable and are being monitored. Previously, 2/4 people (including KS) called someone to come home for IV therapy, but during the IV, they had difficulty breathing. KS showed signs of shock, convulsions, and stiffness.

After receiving the information, on the evening of December 21, Ward 11 People's Committee coordinated and divided into 2 groups to verify the information.

At the snakehead fish noodle shop, at the time of the inspection, the shop was cleaning up to finish selling for the day. The team informed the shop owner about the incident, and the shop owner provided some documents related to the business and the origin of the food.

The owner of the establishment said that at 6pm on December 19, 6 people came to eat noodle soup and then wanted to drink alcohol. The owner bought a 5-liter can of alcohol from a Chinese grocery store (nearby) and gave it to the 6 customers to drink.

Through a quick test of the remaining wine sample (about 2.5 liters) at the noodle shop, the results showed that the sample was positive for Methanol.

The delegation also worked with the owner of the Chinese grocery store. The store presented business and sales documents, but could not present documents related to the origin of the alcohol. The store owner stated that he bought alcohol from Ms. HTC's facility (Do Luong Street) to sell. The results of a quick test of the alcohol sample at the store showed negative for Methanol.

Continuing to trace the origin, the authorities worked with the wine retailer. Ms. C. said she got the wine from a wine production facility in Long Phuoc commune, Ba Ria city. The sample results at Ms. C.'s shop were also negative for Methanol.

Ward 11 proposed that the People's Committee of Vung Tau City request the Provincial Food Safety and Hygiene Department to direct relevant units to continue tracing the origin.
