(NLDO) – They are a pair of co-stars who were rumored to be a lovebirds, after many years of reunion on the Vu Luan classical opera stage.
Meritorious Artist Tam Tam and Meritorious Artist Vu Luan in the play "Thanh Kiem Do Long"
On the evening of February 22, at Ben Thanh Theater, a large audience came to watch the play "Thanh Kiem Do Long" (author Cam Tam, director Vu Tran), cheering on the reunion of the artist couple Vu Luan and Tam Tam.
"I used to study at Bach Long Children's Group with Vu Luan, so we have many beautiful memories. I remember many valuable lessons that Mr. Bach Long taught us, especially performing ancient plays with choreography applied in each song and melody. This time we reunited, I am very happy" - Meritorious Artist Tam Tam shared.
Artist Le Nguyen Truong Giang (as Ta Ton) and Gia Bao (as young Truong Vo Ky) with emotional performances in the play "Thanh Kiem Do Long"
Before 1975, the Cai Luong stage was full of the trend of composing and staging many Cai Luong scripts based on Kim Dung's martial arts novels. The plays "Co Gai Do Long" and "Do Long Dao Y Thien Kiem" were the two most popular scripts in Saigon in the 70s. Later, many authors based on Kim Dung's novels to compose Cai Luong scripts.
Artist Nhat Khanh and Nguyen Van Hop in the play "Thanh Kiem Do Long"
It can be said that when the cai luong script was based on Kim Dung's novels, the swordplay cai luong was mostly staged on the Kim Chung, Kim Chuong, and Da Ly Huong stages. The play "Co gai Do Long" written by two playwrights Ha Trieu and Hoa Phuong created a climax shock for cai luong fans at that time, followed by many other plays that also brought in high revenue.
From the pages of books translated into Vietnamese that people love to read, they have had more fun watching the golden generation of artists of the cai luong stage perform emotionally such as: Minh Canh, Bach Tuyet, Tan Tai, Minh Vuong, Le Thuy, Minh Phung, My Chau, Phuong Lien, Thanh Kim Hue, Kim Ngoc, Hong Nga...
And they admired the artist's talent, even mentioning the character's name every time they met him in real life. When the video reform movement developed, this trend flourished, and record companies exploited many popular video plays inspired by Jin Yong's novels.
Remember the late Meritorious Artist Thanh Sang who was loved for his role as Ta Ton; artist Hong Nga who was praised for her role as Han Ly; or artist Kim Ngoc who played the role of Chu Chi Nhuoc very gracefully...
Dance combined with martial arts created vivid performances in the play "Thanh Kiem Do Long"
Famous films that have created a far-reaching resonance such as "The Legend of the Condor Heroes", "The Return of the Condor Heroes", "The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber", "The Deer and the Cauldron", "The Smiling, Proud Wanderer", "Thien Long Bat Bo"... have been staged and performed for decades. Composers such as Mong Van, Ha Trieu, Hoa Phuong, Yen Lang, Nguyen Thao, Yen Ba, Moc Linh, Hoang Kham, The Chau, Nhi Kieu, Vien Chau... have composed swordplay operas that have been ordered by record companies.
Vu Luan Stage always creates opportunities for many artists to participate in performing classical plays that are seriously staged, in addition to classical plays, also using the pentatonic music of Cai Luong stage.
With author Cam Tam (daughter-in-law of playwright Ngoc Van), she tells the story of the Do Long sword in her own way, not dryly illustrating the story of hatred in the martial arts world but choosing a humane message in the true style of traditional opera for the artists to express.
Watching the play, the audience can clearly distinguish between the main and evil characters, especially the characters Truong Vo Ky (played by Vu Luan) and Trieu Minh (played by Tam Tam) who are enthusiastically cheered by the chemistry between the two artists who were once classmates.
The play also features the participation of artists: To Chau, Trong Nghia, Le Nguyen Truong Giang, Vo Ngoc Quyen, Nguyen Van Hop, Le Trinh, Ha My Anh, Chi Bao, Thanh Thuy, Hien Linh, Nhat Khanh, Le Thanh Dat, Hoai Minh, Thuy Loan, Quynh Nhi, baby Gia Bao...
Watching artist Le Nguyen Truong Giang play the role of Ta Ton, many older audiences recalled Meritorious Artist Thanh Sang. Although the play was staged in the style of classical opera, there were some moving performances that brought genuine emotions to the audience.
This is a beautiful impression that Vu Luan stage sends to the audience who have shown much affection for the socialized brand specializing in staging traditional opera.
