TASS news agency reported on May 29 that the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that it had attacked a Ukrainian airport and "destroyed all targets" with long-range precision weapons launched from aircraft.

"As a result, command posts, radars, as well as aviation equipment, weapons and ammunition storage facilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were attacked," according to Russia's daily update.

Earlier, the military agency of the Khmelnitskiy region in western Ukraine acknowledged damage at a military target, with five aircraft disabled and the runway being restored in the area, but did not specify the location.

The head of Ukraine's Defense Intelligence Agency has promised to retaliate "very soon" after the latest wave of Russian missile and drone attacks on Kyiv and other locations.

"All those in Russia who still believe or can dream that they can scare Ukraine, I want to disappoint you... All those who tried to scare us, dreaming that it would have some effect, will regret it very soon. Our response will not be late. You will see soon," said Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Ukrainian General Staff of the Defense Intelligence Agency.

The Ukrainian Air Force announced on the morning of May 29 that its air defense forces had shot down 30 UAVs and 37 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles, according to The Kyiv Independent . Meanwhile, air force spokesman Yuri Ihnat said Russia may have used Iskander missiles and S-300, S-400 for the attack.

Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov warns West not to 'play with fire' in Ukraine conflict

AFP quoted Commander-in-Chief Valery Zaluzhny as saying that Russia launched 11 Iskander missiles in the attack at 11am on May 29 and all were intercepted by Ukraine.

Russia has not commented on the above information.

Bakhmut's "heat" has decreased significantly.

Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar said on May 29 that the situation had changed little at the bases around the city of Bakhmut in Donetsk, while the intensity of Russian attacks had decreased significantly after Russian soldiers replaced Wagner mercenaries.

"The enemy's attack intensity has decreased significantly because they are replacing troops from Wagner with regular units and trying to stabilize the defense in this area," she said.

The official added that Ukrainian troops were making things difficult for the enemy, despite continued Russian artillery fire. Ukrainian units now control strongholds just south and west of the city.

Will F-16s be able to change the situation in the Ukraine conflict?

"South of Bakhmut, the enemy is trying to strengthen its forces and build up military units," said Deputy Minister Maliar.

The Institute for the Study of War (USA) said that there is continued evidence showing that Russian units are moving to Bakhmut from other frontline areas in Donetsk, including Avdiivka.

Ukraine proposes post-war demilitarized zone

Reuters reported on May 29 that Ukrainian presidential aide Mykhailo Podolyak said it was necessary to establish a demilitarized zone about 100-120 km deep inside Russian territory along the Ukrainian border in post-war settlement.

According to him, this would be a necessary buffer zone to protect areas in Ukraine from Russian attacks. "The main theme of the post-war settlement is to establish protective measures to avoid similar actions in the future," he said.

Russia's new self-propelled gun will soon be put into service

He made his comments after an official from Russia's Belgorod region, which borders Ukraine, called for the annexation of Ukraine's Kharkiv region to stop cross-border shelling by Ukraine.

Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov accused Kyiv forces of shelling several border settlements on May 29. Gladkov said two industrial facilities in the town of Shebekino were hit, with four workers injured and several areas without electricity.

Ukraine has not commented on the reports. Russia has previously accused Ukraine of being behind recent raids on several villages in Belgorod, but Kyiv said they were the work of Russian guerrilla groups.
