The 2025 high school graduation exam will have two types of exam questions according to the 2006 and 2018 general education programs.
2025 is the first year that the high school graduation exam is organized according to the 2018 General Education Program.
Accordingly, high school graduates in 2025 will take 4 subjects, including 2 compulsory subjects: Math, Literature and 2 optional subjects chosen by candidates from the subjects chosen in grade 12.
The exam will be organized into 3 sessions, including: 1 Literature exam, 1 Math exam and 1 optional exam session. Candidates will be arranged according to the optional exam combination to optimize the exam room and score.
Thus, compared to previous years, the exam will have 1 fewer exam session and 2 fewer exam subjects, thereby reducing pressure and social costs while still ensuring exam quality.
In order to ensure the rights and convenience of candidates in the transition period between the 2018 and 2006 General Education programs, the 2025 high school graduation exam will have 2 types of exam questions.
According to the regulations for high school graduation exams from 2025 announced by the Ministry of Education and Training on December 24, candidates who have completed the general education program before 2025 but have not graduated from high school will take the exam according to the exam questions of the 2006 General Education program. Meanwhile, candidates studying in grade 12 in the 2024-2025 school year will take the exam according to the exam questions of the 2018 General Education program.
For candidates who have a high school diploma or intermediate diploma and wish to take the high school graduation exam in 2025 as a basis for admission registration, they can choose to take the exam according to 1 of 2 exam topics.
From 2026, the Ministry of Education and Training will organize the high school graduation exam with only one type of exam according to the new program.
Gradually change the form of testing from paper to computer
According to the regulations for high school graduation exams from 2025 that the Ministry of Education and Training has just announced, for the first time in the high school graduation exam, there will be an additional method of transporting exam questions from the exam council location to the exam printing locations of 63 provinces and cities via the encrypted and secure transmission system of the Government Cipher Committee.
This is an important step forward in applying technology to key stages of the exam organization process.
According to the Ministry of Education and Training, this new method of transporting exam papers helps to transfer original exam papers quickly and promptly, reducing the time and personnel required to transport exam papers as the traditional method is currently applied. At the same time, this is also an early, remote and important preparation step in implementing the exam plan according to the announced roadmap for converting from paper-based exams to computer-based exams.
