This year, in addition to the high school graduation exam, university admissions will also have many changes compared to previous years. The admission regulations are expected to be issued by the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) this March.
Avoid neglecting your studies in semester II.
According to information from the Ministry of Education and Training, the draft Circular amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Regulations on university and college admissions for preschool education is currently in the final stages of the legal document drafting process and will be promulgated as early as early March 2025.
Compared with the current regulations issued with Circular No. 08/2022/TT-BGDDT, the new regulations have some notable adjustments.
In particular, the Ministry of Education and Training will remove the regulation on early admission. This new regulation makes many 12th graders worry that it will reduce their chances of getting into university. However, the Ministry of Education and Training affirms that the candidates' chances of admission will not be narrowed.
Schools can have many admission methods, but the new point this year is that schools will not be able to announce the list of qualified candidates early like previous years, but must wait until students have their high school graduation exam results to consider all methods at the same time, including the method of using high school graduation exam results.
Training institutions will also have to convert the admission scores of many methods into a common admission score and consider from top to bottom until the quota is full. These new scores are to ensure fairness for candidates applying for admission in different methods, not to reduce the candidates' opportunities.
One of the important adjustments that candidates need to understand in this year's admission season is the regulation that if schools use the university admission method based on academic records, they must consider the entire second semester score of grade 12, instead of only counting 5 semesters, including grades 10, 11, and second semester of grade 12 as in previous years.
With the changes in the new regulations, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy - Director of the Department of Higher Education noted that 12th grade students must not be negligent, careless, or subjective in their studies in the final semester of high school. This is also an important time for students to focus on reviewing to prepare well for the high school graduation exam.
No limit on admission wishes
Providing more information about the adjustments in this year's admission regulations, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy said that when candidates register for admission to schools at the same time, on the same system, the admission process will take place after the high school graduation exam. This helps students focus fully on the exam. After that, they can register their wishes in order of priority from 1 to the end and there is no limit to their wishes. Thus, the candidates' chances of entering university are very high.
Giving advice to candidates when choosing their wishes, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy noted that candidates can prioritize their wishes to the universities they love, followed by colleges with majors that can be linked, as a backup in case they are not qualified enough to get into the desired university. They can study at the corresponding college to link to that university.
According to the Director of the Department of Higher Education, up to now, the admission regulations have always had provisions for subjects of joint training. This year, the Ministry of Education and Training will submit to the Prime Minister for promulgation a decree on joint training between levels of education in the national education system. This will have more open principles to help students easily transfer within the system.
“Especially when the Ministry of Education and Training unifies management between levels of education from primary, secondary to college, university, master, doctorate, the convenience and ease of connection will increase. Therefore, students can completely rest assured to apply to universities and colleges nationwide,” Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy emphasized.
