According to the World Ultra Wealth 2024 report by data firm Altrata, the number of ultra-rich people, with assets of $30 million or more, increased by 8% in 2023, to 426,330 people.
The total wealth of these millionaires, known as ultra-high net worth (UHNW) individuals, will increase by 7% to $49 trillion in 2023, largely thanks to a rally in stock prices late last year, the report said.
New York has 16,630 ultra-rich residents, maintaining its position as the center of the world's ultra-rich.
Next is Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (China) with 12,546 people and Los Angeles with 8,955 super-rich people.
Japan's capital Tokyo ranked fourth with 6,445 super-rich people.
According to the report, by 2023, the ultra-rich will account for one-third of global luxury spending, equivalent to $118 billion. They have about $38 trillion in investable assets and donate $190 billion to charity, accounting for 38% of total global charitable activities.
Assessing the future prospects of the world's super-rich, Altrata's report said that major central banks' expected interest rate cuts and the growth of emerging industries will likely continue to boost UHNW assets this year and next.
The report estimates that over the next five years, the ultra-rich population is expected to increase by 38% to 587,650 people. Their total wealth will also increase by $19 trillion.
