(Dan Tri) - If he does not participate in the Paris Masters, Novak Djokovic will be left empty-handed with the ATP Masters 1000 title in the 2024 season.
Serbian media reported that Novak Djokovic will most likely not participate in the 2024 Paris Masters taking place in France from October 28 to November 3. This puts Nole at a disadvantage in getting a ticket to the ATP Finals as well as ending the season empty-handed at the ATP Masters 1000 tournaments.
Djokovic has won 40 ATP Masters 1000 titles in his career, but he has yet to reach the top of the tournament this season. Nole left a big regret when he lost to Jannik Sinner in the final of the Shanghai Masters 2024 10 days ago.
The current ATP Masters 1000 champions in 2024 include Carlos Alcaraz (Indian Wells), Jannik Sinner (Miami Open, Cincinnati Open, Shanghai Masters), Stefanos Tsitsipas (Monte Carlo), Andrey Rublev (Madrid Open), Alexander Zverev (Rome Masters) and Alexei Popyrin (Canadian Open), while the Paris Masters has yet to take place.
Djokovic has yet to win an ATP title this year and has suffered painful defeats in all four Grand Slam tournaments. The only title Nole will win in 2024 is the men's singles tennis gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics in August.
The Serbian tennis player only had 2 years of "blank slate" at the ATP Masters 1000 playground, which were in 2010 and 2017. Djokovic currently holds the record of 7 Paris Masters championships as well as 40 ATP Masters 1000 tournaments.
The 2024 season witnessed a special event when three legends Federer, Nadal and Djokovic all went empty-handed at the ATP Masters 1000 tournaments, something that had never happened since 2004. This trio has won a total of 104 ATP Masters 1000 titles in the past 20 years, including Djokovic (40 titles), Nadal (36) and Federer (28).
Dominic Thiem announces retirement at age 31
Tennis star Dominic Thiem, born in 1993, officially retired from his professional career after losing to Italian player Luciano Darderi in the first round of the ATP 500 Vienna Open in Austria on October 22.
At the age of 31, Thiem ended his career with 17 titles. The highlight of the Austrian tennis player's career was his first and only Grand Slam championship at the 2020 US Open. It was the most glorious moment of his career, when Thiem defeated Alexander Zverev in an emotional final.
In addition to the US Open championship, Thiem also participated in three other Grand Slam finals (Roland Garros 2018 and 2019, Australian Open 2020), but all stopped before the legends Nadal and Djokovic. A wrist injury in June 2021 was the reason why Thiem's form declined and he could not return to his peak.
