DTO - Implementing the Conclusion Notice No. 1878 dated May 20, 2020 of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, the Party Delegation of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee (VFF) led the Standing Committee of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee to develop Plan No. 57 dated June 10, 2020 on piloting the emulation model to strive to become a "Professional Farmer". Accordingly, the province selected 5 districts to pilot the model according to crop groups including: Lap Vo district produces safe vegetables; Cao Lanh district produces mango and jackfruit trees; Chau Thanh district produces longan trees; Lai Vung district produces citrus fruit trees; Thap Muoi district produces rice and jackfruit trees.
Gardeners in My Xuong commune, Cao Lanh district actively compete to become "Professional farmers"
The emulation model to strive to become a "Professional Farmer" focuses on implementing 2 groups in the social and production and business fields. In particular, it is concretized into 8 emulation criteria to strive to become a "Professional Farmer" directly related to the household that needs to strive to implement. Specifically: all family members of age voluntarily participate in socio-political organizations; voluntarily participate in cooperatives and Associations; members of age all go to school; no one violates the law; agricultural product production must comply with regulations on safe production. In addition, strictly comply with regulations on environmental protection; be willing to share with the community about experiences in production and business; participate in contributing to social security programs... creating high consensus among the people.
In Cao Lanh district, responding to the emulation movement to strive to become a "Professional Farmer", communes have implemented models such as: rice production in the direction of large-scale fields at Thuan Tien Agricultural Service Cooperative (Gao Giong commune), "My Mango Tree" (My Xuong commune), linking rice seed production (Tan Hoi Trung commune)... attracting hundreds of households to participate. Thereby, creating a foundation to shift from traditional agricultural production thinking to agricultural economic thinking. Mr. Nguyen Van Mach (born in 1962, residing in My Thanh hamlet, My Xuong commune, Cao Lanh district), said: “Since participating in the emulation model striving to become a “Professional Farmer”, I and many gardeners of the “My Mango Tree” model have implemented the mango production process according to VietGAP standards to aim for sustainable agriculture. In addition, many mango gardeners in My Xuong commune also focus on organic mango production, creating clean products to meet the increasing needs of consumers. From there, the image of farmers is increasingly more responsible and professional in the production of the local staple product line”.
Through the pilot model of striving to become a "Professional Farmer", farmers initially understand that agriculture must integrate multiple values, focusing on the utility of goods and products. Realizing that the market has shifted from the need to "eat to be full" to "eat to be delicious", "eat clean, safe, nutritious". From there, production must also be divided into many streams according to the needs of society, must produce cleanly, comply with regulations on safe production; voluntarily comply with the instructions of VietGAP, GlobalGAP standards, organic agricultural standards, environmentally friendly production, must be clean, safe, responsible, ethical to themselves and the community.
People use mechanized rice harvesting, contributing to reducing losses in agricultural production.
According to the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, after 2 years of piloting the emulation model to strive to become a "Professional Farmer" in the province, farmers have become more aware and voluntarily participate in the production chain applying new techniques; promoting the spirit of solidarity, autonomy and self-management in linking production and consumption of agricultural products. In particular, the emulation model to strive to become a "Professional Farmer" has strongly changed the role of the subject and the sense of responsibility of farmers in voluntarily and proactively participating in the development of green and sustainable agriculture. Building a foundation to improve the quality of collective economy in the agricultural sector in the locality..., contributing to the effective implementation of the Provincial Agricultural Restructuring Project.
