The North has stabilized, the great migration of the livestock industry

Báo Quốc TếBáo Quốc Tế21/11/2024

In general, the pig market today has mixed adjustments in the Central and Southern regions, while the North is quite stable. The latest survey shows that the price of pigs in the three regions is currently fluctuating between 60,000 - 63,000 VND/kg. The major relocation of the livestock industry to complete is not simple when the new Law on Livestock comes into effect on January 1, 2025.

Pig price today 11/21

*Pig price in the North:

Pig prices in the Northern region remained unchanged this morning, trading in the range of 61,000 - 63,000 VND/kg.

Of which, Ninh Binh and Lao Cai are the two provinces with the lowest price of 61,000 VND/kg in the region. The remaining localities in the region purchase from 62,000 - 63,000 VND/kg.

*Pig price in the Central Highlands region

The Central Highlands region reduced the price in Thua Thien Hue to 60,000 VND/kg.

Currently, the transaction price in localities in this region does not have a big difference, fluctuating from 60,000 - 61,000 VND/kg, with the level of 61,000 VND/kg appearing in the provinces: Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Quang Binh and Lam Dong.

*Pig price in the Southern region

The Southern market went in the opposite direction, increasing by VND1,000/kg, to VND61,000/kg in Dong Nai, Binh Duong and Bac Lieu; Vinh Long and Hau Giang both reached VND62,000/kg.

Southern live pigs are being sold at around 60,000 - 63,000 VND/kg with only Tra Vinh province recording a price of 60,000 VND/kg.

*From January 1, 2025, the new Law on Animal Husbandry officially takes effect, opening up a major relocation when tens of thousands of livestock farms across the country may have to stop operating. Along with that, the group of industrial pig farming enterprises has the opportunity to enter a big battle for market share. It's just that this battle is reserved for those who have prepared carefully.

In fact, since the beginning of 2024, some provinces and cities have taken the lead in this story decisively. For example, Dong Nai province has accelerated the relocation of about 3,000 farms, of which nearly 1,600 facilities have been relocated as of July 2024. Similarly, Hanoi with nearly 2,600 livestock households subject to relocation is also having to strongly implement, according to data from the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

However, completing this story is not simple. The arrangement of land funds and procedures related to the relocation policy are considered difficult to implement due to many procedural problems and the distance from the farmers' residence. In particular, many cases cannot leave because the land source is no longer available. In the context of only nearly 2 months before "G hour", many farmers face the risk of being forced to stop operations.

The decrease in supply due to the impact of natural disasters, epidemics, and the market gap left by small-scale livestock groups during the “great migration” also creates opportunities for the industrial pig farming industry to break through. Livestock enterprises are entering the battle for market share; however, only for those who are prepared.

Preparation includes many factors, including a total herd, a closed-loop farming model that ensures bio-security, and sustainable development-compliant barns... But the most important thing is to have enough technology to meet the new standards. In the market, some prominent names in this story include Dabaco, Greenfeed (GREENFEED Vietnam JSC) or BAF.
