"The phrase 'we will not negotiate under sanctions' is incorrect. Rather, we will not negotiate under maximum pressure," Mohajerani was quoted by TASS news agency as saying at a press conference.
Meanwhile, Iranian political scientist and security expert Professor Ruhollah Modabber assessed that Russia's mediating role in discussions between Iran and the US is beneficial to the Islamic Republic because Moscow is Tehran's ally and strategic partner.
"Russian mediation in the Iran-US negotiations is a great solution. Russia and President Vladimir Putin are true friends of Iran. They will help ease tensions between Tehran and Washington and accurately convey the interests of the Islamic Republic to the US," Professor Modabber said.
According to the above expert, supporting representatives of the trio of European countries including Germany, France and the UK as intermediaries "would be a mistake".
After taking office for a second term, US President Donald Trump resumed a campaign of maximum pressure on Iran, including efforts to completely halt Tehran's crude oil exports, which Washington says are used to fund its nuclear weapons development. Iran has firmly rejected this approach.
In a statement on February 7, Iran's supreme leader, Grand Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, declared that it was impossible to negotiate with the United States, as the country had withdrawn from the 2015 nuclear deal, failed to fulfill its responsibilities, and failed to lift sanctions against Tehran.

According to Bloomberg , a source said that US President Donald Trump asked Moscow to help Washington connect with Tehran on the issue of the nuclear program during a phone call with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on February 12.
The Russian-US foreign ministers' meeting on February 18 in the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh also discussed this topic.
