Accordingly, Beijing quickly retaliated against Washington's new tariff measures by announcing a 10-15% import tax increase on many agricultural and food products of the world's largest economy.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said that the country's countermeasures are aimed at protecting its own rights and interests.

"Beijing calls on Washington to return to dialogue and cooperation as soon as possible," Lam Kiem said.

On the same day, China's Ministry of Commerce announced that it had decided to add 15 US entities that threaten national security and interests to its export control list, bringing the total number of entities in the world's largest economy subject to export and investment restrictions to 25.

From March 4, exports of dual-use goods to the above 15 companies will be banned, and all related export activities will be stopped immediately.

According to China's Ministry of Commerce, in exceptional cases where an export request is deemed necessary, the exporter must apply for approval.

* Also related to tariffs, on March 4, French Finance Minister Eric Lombard stated that the EU needs to reach a "balanced agreement" with the US.

“The EU has tough negotiators and we will be tough,” Lombard told France Info radio. “But we need to reach a balanced agreement to protect our economy. The EU is Washington’s number one market.”

US President Donald Trump announced that a 25% tariff on imported goods from the 27-member bloc will be introduced.
