Promoting cashless payments, smart public transport

On the morning of March 9, Ho Chi Minh City officially inaugurated Metro Line No. 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) after more than two months of commercial operation since December 22. On the occasion of the inauguration of Metro Line No. 1, Vikki Digital Bank distributed 100,000 free VikkiGo cards to people at 14 metro stations.

New era for Ho Chi Minh City urban railway

Metro Line 1 has a total length of 19.7 km, including 14 stations, connecting the center of Ho Chi Minh City with Thu Duc City. This is the first metro line with underground sections in Vietnam, applying many modern construction technologies. The project is implemented with ODA capital from the Japanese government and counterpart capital from the State budget.

Since its operation on December 22, 2024, the metro line has served more than 5 million passengers, receiving positive feedback from the people. This project marks a new era in Ho Chi Minh City's urban railway system, creating strong momentum for the city to continue implementing the next metro lines.

Attending the event, Mr. Miyaji Takuma - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan affirmed that Metro Line No. 1 is not only an important transport project but also a symbol of the cooperative relationship between Japan and Vietnam. This is also the largest ODA project of Japan for Vietnam. He expressed his hope that the metro line will become a familiar means of transport for the people of Ho Chi Minh City, contributing to reducing traffic congestion, improving the living environment and enhancing urban quality.

According to Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc, the inauguration ceremony of metro line 1 is not only a source of pride for the city but also marks an important turning point in the process of urban transport transformation.
