KLM Royal Dutch Airlines Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner lands at San José Juan Santamaria International Airport with a cracked left cockpit window

Hello magazine reported on February 11 that a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines carrying a delegation led by Queen Mathilde of the Kingdom of Belgium was forced to use priority landing rights when preparing to land at San José Juan Santamaria International Airport in Costa Rica on February 9.

Priority landing rights are used in the event of an emergency or other dangerous situation. A troubled aircraft can land on the runway without waiting for its turn.

In this case, the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner had a cracked window on the left side of the pilot's cockpit. The plane landed 15 minutes earlier than scheduled, but the crew did not inform the passengers of the problem and just handled it quietly.

Later, journalist Wim Dehandschutter, who was on the flight, posted on his X account: "The plane carrying Queen Mathilde of Belgium landed in Costa Rica with a cracked window."

"I was on that flight. We passengers didn't notice (anything unusual), and we weren't told anything during the flight or when the plane landed," said Mr. Dehandschutter.

The flight experienced some turbulence and a rough landing, but overall there were no problems, Mr Dehandschutter added.

Queen Mathilde's three-day visit from February 10-12 will see her return home today.
