Errors appeared, teacher Kim Sang-sik needs to recalculate
The match against Cambodia was a friendly. In friendly matches, it is very common for experts around the world to experiment with the team's lineup. Coach Kim Sang-sik did the same in the match against the team from the land of pagodas.

Right at the start of the match, Mr. Kim Sang-sik arranged for central midfielder Trieu Viet Hung to play as a left-back. This experiment quickly… failed, and the Korean coach had to quickly withdraw Trieu Viet Hung from the field when the first half had just passed by more than half. It was not until the real left-back Nguyen Van Vi came on to replace Trieu Viet Hung that the Vietnamese team's attacks on the left wing were performed better.
This poses a problem for coach Kim Sang-sik in the upcoming training sessions of the Vietnamese team, which is that he needs more real left-backs. Because up to now, in the list of the team preparing to compete with Laos in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers on March 25, there is still only Nguyen Van Vi, who is good at playing left-back.
Coach Kim Sang-sik's next experiment was to push midfielder Nguyen Hai Long up high, playing as a withdrawn striker. This experiment was successful because Hai Long himself is a player with good technique and good finishing skills. Moreover, Hai Long is the type of player who can adapt to different positions in the attack. It was Hai Long who scored the opening goal in the 26th minute for the Vietnamese team against Cambodia.
This opens up the prospect of building a new attack line for the team in the hands of the Korean coach in the future. That is, Hai Long can combine with any real striker. At the same time, Mr. Kim Sang-sik can push Hai Long to the front line, creating a really crowded forward line for the Vietnamese team, in case we need to increase the pressure really strongly and need to score many goals.
Valuable lesson
However, it is a pity that in the match against Cambodia last night, Mr. Kim Sang-sik did not have many successful positional exchanges between players, like in the case of Hai Long.
After Hoang Duc left the field, the midfield of the Vietnamese team weakened.

Chau Ngoc Quang came on in the second half to replace Hoang Duc, playing the role of a rhythm keeper for the Vietnamese team, but failed. Chau Ngoc Quang's playing style did not have the same calmness and coolness as Hoang Duc. Chau Ngoc Quang's skills in covering the ball, controlling the ball, and making passes to teammates around him were also not as good as Hoang Duc's.
As a result, after Hoang Duc left the field at the beginning of the second half, the attacking style of the Vietnamese team weakened significantly. Our ability to maintain the rhythm in the midfield was no longer seamless, making it easy for the opponent to counterattack and put pressure.
Another player who was also tested in a new position was right-back Truong Tien Anh, who was pushed up high to play as a right winger in the middle of the second half. However, when playing too high, Tien Anh was not used to the feeling of having to receive the ball with his back to the opponent's goal, leading to him easily mishandling the ball when it came to his feet.
After discovering this point, coach Kim Sang-sik quickly adjusted again, putting striker Dinh Thanh Binh on the field to play right striker, pulling Truong Tien Anh back to play in his familiar right-back position.
As mentioned, any successful or failed experiment gives coach Kim Sang-sik more experience, more comprehensive and accurate assessments of the players he has in hand. Mr. Kim Sang-sik's experiment in the friendly match with Cambodia is aimed at achieving good results in the official match against the Laos team in the next few days.
