Revealing Vietnamese "ambassadors" competing in high school science and technology competitions in the United States

NDO - After 3 days of continuous competition, the National Science and Technology Competition for high school students in the 2024-2025 school year has officially ended with first prize going to 12 practical projects and researches of young people from all over the country.

Co-organized by the Ministry of Education and Training, Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, and DOL English, the 2024-2025 school year competition has the participation of 62 Departments of Education and Training and 12 units of universities, colleges, institutes, research institutes with high schools, high schools under the Ministry, and ministerial-level agencies.

Statistics from the Organizing Committee show that there were a total of 212 competing projects, with 23 individual projects and 189 collective projects. Notably, the number of projects produced by high school students was up to 190. In the area of ​​middle school students, this number was 22 projects. The projects participating in the Competition were in 22 fields, typically: biomedical engineering, cell and molecular biology, social and behavioral sciences...

For the first time, the Competition is implemented under new regulations. Specifically, the competing projects are selected from provincial and school-level competitions across the country. It is known that every year, there are 200-300 projects participating in the preliminary round to win a place in the final round of the Provincial Competition. On that basis, the Organizing Committee continues to search for candidates for the National Competition.

Many candidates from all over the country attended the award ceremony of the Contest.

From the final results, the Ministry of Education and Training will select the best projects to participate in the International Science and Technology Competition for high school students, scheduled to take place in May 2025 in the United States.

On the afternoon of March 21, the Organizing Committee announced the list of 12 projects that won the final first prize. Of which, the University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi "won big" with 3 projects by authors who are students from the High School for Natural Sciences and the High School for Educational Sciences, including: "Developing a solution to support the assessment of male reproductive health at home", "Research on creating antibodies to neutralize Botulinum toxin Type A based on nanobody technology" and "Research on creating a strain of Vibrio Natriegens capable of synthesizing β - Nicotonamide Mononucleotide using metabolic techniques".

The remaining overall first prize winning projects are:

- Microparticle system containing nano Zinc oxide in self-cleaning and antibacterial application, An Duong High School (Hai Phong city)

- High performance lithium vanadium oxide oxidation material for environmental treatment, Viet Duc High School (Hanoi city)

- AT-05 utility helmet, Han Thuyen High School (Bac Ninh province)

- Application of Deep Learning in automatic music composition, orientation for preservation and development of Southern amateur music, Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted (Ho Chi Minh City)

- TalkieVBot - educational support robot for children with speech disabilities, Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted (Da Nang city)

- Smart waste classification system integrating artificial intelligence and sound sensors, Nguyen Sieu High School (Hung Yen province)

- Self-propelled wheelchair to support people with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in moving and communicating, Quang Tri Town High School (Quang Tri Province)

- Identify influencing factors and propose a set of self-assessment criteria for choosing suitable university majors for high school students, Lam Son High School for the Gifted (Thanh Hoa province)

- Factors affecting the risk of psychological manipulation in peer relationships of high school students in Hanoi, Phan Huy Chu High School (Hanoi city)

The International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) is an annual competition, first held in 1952. To date, each year, about 1,800 students from about 80 countries and territories around the world participate in presenting research results in 21 fields of the Competition. Participating in the 2024 Competition in the United States, the Vietnamese student delegation won 1 Second Prize in the field of System Software.
