Ho Chi Minh City police will coordinate with many sectors to create profiles of drug addicts with driver's licenses and send them to localities and transportation businesses for management, according to Major General Tran Duc Tai.
The plan was announced by Major General Tran Duc Tai, Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Police, at the Conference on implementing work to ensure traffic order and safety in Ho Chi Minh City on the afternoon of November 22.

Accordingly, within the next month, the HCM City Traffic Police Department will coordinate with the Traffic Police Department, the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, and the Ministry of Transport to compile data on drug addicts with driver's licenses and send them to local authorities for comparison and review.
After having the list, the unit will notify the police of the ward, commune, town and transport businesses to manage, take measures to check and prevent people using stimulants while driving, which can cause accidents.
When these people drive motorbikes or cars, the ward, commune, and town police can detect and deal with them promptly. In addition, information will be sent to transport businesses for timely detection and monitoring. "This will prevent drug addicts or those in rehabilitation from driving unsafely," said Major Tai.
This plan was made in the context of people using addictive substances while driving is still common. During a week of checking on National Highway 1 through Ho Chi Minh City, the city's Traffic Police Department discovered 17 drivers positive for drugs, 312 cases of alcohol concentration while driving.
In May 2023, the Ministry of Transport requested the Department to advise the People's Committees of localities to direct medical examination facilities to have a strict control mechanism, ending the situation of granting driving licenses to drug addicts and people with insufficient capacity and behavior.
In the past 11 months, Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Police have handled more than 609,000 violations; detained 1,261 cars, more than 139,000 motorbikes, and revoked the driving licenses of nearly 99,000 people.
