The Center for Agricultural Extension and Rural Clean Water of Lao Cai province has just organized the implementation of the project "Building a model of mulberry cultivation and silkworm raising to serve the stable development of mulberry cultivation and silkworm raising in some northern mountainous provinces" in 2025 in Bao Yen district.
At the project launch, there were representatives of the Center for Agricultural Extension and Rural Clean Water, Lao Cai Department of Agriculture and Environment, Bao Yen District Agricultural Service Center, Cam Con and Kim Son Commune People's Committees and 10 households registered to participate in the new hybrid mulberry planting model in 2025.

The project contributes to concretizing Plan No. 418/KH-UBND dated October 28, 2024 of the Provincial People's Committee on Developing and expanding the production of mulberry and silk products in Lao Cai province, period 2024 - 2025, orientation to 2030.
At the launching ceremony, representatives of the Lao Cai Provincial Agricultural Extension and Agricultural Services Center announced the project implementation plan with a scale of planting 4 hectares of new F1-GQ2 mulberry varieties, which are new mulberry varieties with high productivity and good quality. At the same time, the main activities will be implemented such as: training on mulberry planting and silkworm raising techniques for households participating in the model; building a business management and organization model; training and replicating the model; study tour seminars; installing billboards and supporting materials for households participating in the model. According to the plan, the state will support 70% of the cost of purchasing seeds and essential materials, and people will contribute 30% of the counterpart.

At the training session, the households were very excited to be the first to be supported to participate in restoring the mulberry growing and silkworm raising profession in the locality. At the same time, they wanted to be guided in detail about new technical advances in the process of planting, caring for mulberry, raising silkworms and linking product consumption to increase productivity and income.
Representatives of functional agencies and local authorities emphasized the importance of developing sericulture in the local rural economic structure. The authorities committed to closely coordinate with specialized agencies to support people in the process of implementing the model.
It is known that 10 typical households in Kim Son and Cam Con communes of Bao Yen district, Lao Cai have been selected to participate in the project of growing mulberry and raising silkworms because they meet the requirements of area, labor and commit to provide 30% of seedlings and materials. The households identify growing mulberry and raising silkworms as the main livelihood for their families and are willing to share their experiences with other households to replicate the model. The list of households is posted at the People's Committee of the commune to prepare for signing a responsibility contract between the group of households and the Center for Agricultural Extension and Rural Clean Water to implement the project.
