Regarding the case of the deputy chief prosecutor accused of "extorting money" from the defendant's family, on November 3, a source of Thanh Nien reporter said that the People's Procuracy of Ca Mau province had issued a disciplinary reprimand to Mr. Pham Tan Nua, deputy chief prosecutor of Ngoc Hien district People's Procuracy.
Accordingly, Mr. Nua was disciplined due to his involvement in the case of Mr. Lai Tan Tai (62 years old, residing in Rach Goc Town, Ngoc Hien District) accusing officials of the People's Procuracy and the Ngoc Hien District Police of "extorting money" to get his daughter released on bail.
Ngoc Hien District People's Procuracy (Ca Mau)
As Thanh Nien reported, Mr. Lai Tan Tai previously accused officials of the People's Procuracy and the Ngoc Hien District Police of "extorting money" to get his daughter, Lai Phuong Thuy (35 years old), released on bail. Afterwards, the Office of the Criminal Police Department of Ca Mau Province Police forwarded Mr. Tai's petition to the Chief of the Criminal Police Department of Ngoc Hien District Police and the Chief of the Ngoc Hien District People's Procuracy.
Mr. Tai's complaint mentioned that he met with a Deputy Chief Justice of the Ngoc Hien District People's Procuracy to ask for the defendant Thuy to be released on bail due to family circumstances. Mr. Tai affirmed, "This person solicited me for 40 million VND, but told me not to tell anyone about this. If I agreed, the next day (April 4 - PV ) he would approve my child's release on bail."
It is known that in the petition sent to the Director of Ca Mau Provincial Police, Mr. Tai accused 3 officers of Ngoc Hien District Police and 2 officers of Ngoc Hien District People's Procuracy of "extorting money" from his family.
Previously, in May 2023, after receiving information about the incident with signs of "extortion" to "run" bail in Ngoc Hien district, Mr. Nguyen Tien Hai, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption and Negatives of Ca Mau province, directed the authorities to investigate and clarify.
Recently, the Office of the Ca Mau Provincial Party Committee issued a document informing about the results of the verification and handling of the above case. According to the content of the document, after verification and clarification, there was not enough basis to conclude that there was bribery, but in the process of performing the task, the individuals violated the procedures and regulations of the industry. From there, the Ca Mau Provincial Police have handled the responsibility and disciplined 10 related officials. The Ca Mau Provincial People's Procuracy has also handled the responsibility of 1 prosecutor of Ngoc Hien District. The document of the Office of the Ca Mau Provincial Party Committee did not specify which individuals were reviewed, disciplined and the form of discipline.
On the same day, November 3, Mr. Lai Tan Tai said that so far he has not received any notice from the authorities regarding the 11 officers of the police force and the People's Procuracy of Ngoc Hien district being disciplined. "So far, I have only received one notice from the Chief Inspector of the People's Procuracy of Ca Mau province, concluding that the content of the denunciation is "considered to have signs but not enough evidence to conclude". I am the denouncer, I need to know clearly how the denounced people are disciplined and how their responsibilities are handled, but I do not understand why I have not received any notice of the results of the handling from the police force. I only know about the incident through the press", Mr. Tai said.
