In the 2023 winter-spring crop, Kien Xuong district planted nearly 11,200 hectares, of which high-yield rice varieties accounted for 58.02% and high-quality rice varieties accounted for 41.98% of the area. To prevent adverse weather conditions, people focused on urgently harvesting the winter-spring rice crop and preparing the land for winter crops.

Kien Xuong district strives to complete the winter-spring rice harvest before October 20.

Mr. Nguyen Quang The, Director of Vu An Commune Agricultural Service Production and Trading Cooperative, said: The cooperative has encouraged farmers to urgently harvest the winter-spring rice crop with the motto "greener at home than old in the fields". Focus on harvesting rice in low-lying areas to avoid flooding during heavy rains. The whole commune planted nearly 200 hectares, mainly BC15, T10, fragrant rice, and various types of sticky rice. Despite pests and complicated weather, 20% of the rice area was damaged, but the rice yield still reached over 59 quintals/ha. Up to now, the whole commune has harvested over 40% of the area, striving to complete the harvest of all the winter-spring rice by mid-October. Along with speeding up the rice harvest, the cooperative is urging people to prepare the land, sow seeds, and plant winter crops. It is expected that the whole commune will plant 157 hectares, an increase of 14 hectares compared to last year's winter crop.

Kien Xuong district leaders inspect the progress of the 2023 winter-spring rice harvest.

At the field of Kha Phu village, Binh Thanh commune, Ms. Dao Thi Tuoi shared: I am over 70 years old but still do not abandon the field, this year's crop, my family planted 5 sao of TBR225 rice both for food and to sell to businesses. As soon as the rice is ripe, I rent a harvester and dry it to sell to the cooperative. Doing so, I am both leisurely and have a higher income than before. The expected yield of this year's crop is over 2 quintals/sao.

Mr. Dang Van Quang, Director of the Commune Agricultural Service Production and Trading Cooperative, affirmed: Thanks to the good farming tradition and production linkage over the past decades, people in the commune have become familiar with the stages of production. Currently, nearly 10 large harvesters are working at full capacity in all fields. Of the total 300 hectares of winter-spring rice, 125 hectares are in the linkage area. The cooperative completely consumes the output of products for people with a quantity of about 500 tons of fresh rice and dry rice. The most favorable thing is that people harvest 100% of the area by machine, and the cooperative has a drying system, drying an average of 500 tons of rice for people each crop, so the season is guaranteed. It is expected that the whole commune will finish harvesting before October 20.

Mr. Pham Van Giam, Head of Nguyet Lam 2 Village, Vu Binh Commune, shared: The whole village has 30 hectares of summer-autumn rice, of which over 90% is commercial rice. To speed up the harvest for the winter crop, the village has coordinated with the Agricultural Production and Business Cooperative to arrange harvesters for the people and at the same time link up to find product outlets. As soon as the rice is harvested, businesses will come to the fields to buy fresh rice immediately. Currently, the rice is entering the ripening stage, it is expected that from October 16, the village will start harvesting and weighing fresh rice at a price of 7,900 VND/kg. The estimated yield of the summer-autumn rice crop is 2.5 quintals/sao.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai, Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Kien Xuong district, said: The district has issued an official dispatch directing communes and towns to focus on propagating to people to take advantage of favorable weather, mobilizing maximum machinery and human resources to quickly harvest the winter-spring rice with the motto "green at home is better than ripe in the fields". Currently, 181 harvesters have spread across the fields in the district, 24 dryers of collectives and individuals are operating at full capacity to serve the people. In addition, the district has directed localities to actively urge people to harvest rice and immediately prepare the land for winter crops, ensuring the completion of the target assigned by the province of nearly 4,300 hectares. Directing communes and towns to launch a movement to produce winter crops, mobilizing the political system to focus on propagating policies and measures to develop winter crops. Mobilize people to expand the area of growing local advantageous vegetables, ensure effective production organization, create trust and momentum for people to promote and replicate in the following years. District leaders, heads of departments, offices, leaders of communes and towns come down to direct, urge and inspect the implementation to strive to exceed the assigned targets. The whole district strives to finish harvesting the summer-autumn rice crop before October 20 and plant an additional 420 hectares of winter crops compared to 2022.
