The dam project, once completed, is expected to divert water from West Lake to To Lich River. The dams will retain water and maintain the water level on To Lich River according to the city's plan.

The purpose of the dam is so that when water from West Lake is led into To Lich River, the dams will hold back the water and maintain the water level depth on To Lich River according to the city's plan.

According to the plan, in addition to the first dam at Quang Bridge, Hanoi is also planning to build more dams at Cot Bridge (Yen Hoa Ward, Cau Giay District) and Dau Bridge (Linh Dam Area, Hoang Mai District). These projects will play an important role in maintaining water levels, avoiding the situation of drying up like in previous years.
