While working with soldiers on the ammunition box task, when hearing the command "fire...fire...fire!!!", Captain Doan Ngoc Hao - Ammunition Warehouse Manager immediately commanded the mobile unit to go to the fire shelter to gather fire extinguishers, hooks, steel wool, fire smothering boards... to quickly approach the location, urgently creating a boundary to prevent the fire from spreading to the technical area. Next to that, Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Van Hao - Storage staff and his teammates deployed the fire water system, using nozzles to quickly extinguish the fire.

After completing the task of handling the situation set by the warehouse commander, Captain Doan Ngoc Hao told us: “For warehouse soldiers, the work is always dangerous, hot weather makes it easy for fires and explosions to occur. The sudden alarm helps officers, soldiers, and employees of the unit to raise awareness and effectively handle situations when incidents occur.”

Monitoring and observing the actions of each unit, Captain Tran Van Tu - Captain of the Warehouse Company was very satisfied with the methods, style as well as the effective and timely handling of situations by the officers and soldiers of the unit. Talking to us, he said that Warehouse K97 is located in the mountainous area of Hoa Phu commune (Hoa Vang district, Da Nang city), the travel conditions are far away, the water source is scarce, especially in the dry season. The warehouse system is built close to the mountainous area, the outer belt is adjacent to the forest area of the local people, the situation of slash-and-burn still occurs. In the dry season, low humidity, thunderstorms, and lightning lead to a very high risk of fire and explosion. Therefore, the work of fire prevention and fighting is always given top priority by the Party Committee and command of Warehouse K97.

“Every year, the fire prevention and fighting plan (PCCN) is included in the resolution and implemented and practiced regularly. The officers and soldiers practice the hypothetical situations thoroughly and handle them promptly, so in the past fires that occurred outside the warehouse, the unit quickly sent forces to extinguish, clear the area, create a firebreak around the unit's fence, prevent the fire from spreading, and ensure absolute safety,” Captain Tran Van Tu shared.

Along with that, the unit has focused on educating and raising awareness and responsibility for each officer, employee and soldier on fire prevention and fighting work; strictly maintaining the command, duty, patrol and guard regime. Every week, the unit strengthens inspection of fire prevention and fighting equipment and materials, lightning protection systems, explosion-proof embankments, water and sand sources that are arranged in readiness in all warehouse areas. Training, combat readiness; practicing to participate in fire prevention and fighting competitions and sports events organized by all levels are always focused on by the unit.

Visiting the warehouse, we noticed that currently, some old warehouses have gradually deteriorated, but the management and storage of ammunition is still arranged and divided into lots scientifically and in accordance with regulations by the unit's officers and employees, ensuring the requirements of "easy to see, easy to take, easy to find, easy to check". After carefully checking each ventilation hole and thermometer, Captain Doan Ngoc Hao confided: "In the hot season, to ensure the safety of the warehouse, the warehouse team must closely monitor the temperature and humidity every day, open the ventilation doors, check the water pump system from the tanks, promptly detect and fix any possible breakdowns. Every week, we organize the clearing and cleaning of the runways and fences around the warehouse area".

According to Lieutenant Colonel Tran Huu Binh, Head of Engineering, Da Nang City Military Command: Currently, fire prevention and fighting work at weapons and ammunition warehouses under the Da Nang City Military Command is always of primary concern to the Party Committee and the Technical Department, because if a fire or explosion occurs, the consequences will be very serious, not only causing damage to facilities, but also affecting the lives and safety of officers, soldiers and people around the warehouses.

“In the past time, the Party Committee and the commander of the Technical Department have advised the Party Committee and the City Military Command to lead, direct, thoroughly grasp and strictly implement fire prevention and fighting work, preventing fires and explosions in warehouses and stations. This is an important content in the annual Technical Work Order of the Da Nang City Military Command. K97 Warehouse has always performed fire prevention and fighting work well, ensuring absolute safety for people and technical equipment, and has been recognized and highly appreciated by superiors for many consecutive years,” Lieutenant Colonel Tran Huu Binh emphasized.
