After losing to the US women's team with an acceptable score in the group stage of the 2023 World Cup, a pleasant atmosphere spread throughout the Vietnamese women's team. On the bus back to the hotel, during lunch and dinner, the teachers and students talked animatedly about the hot situations of the match. Those were happy stories.

Coach Mai Duc Chung was pensive during the training session on July 23.

Before the training session yesterday morning, the topic was still the match against the US team, but coach Mai Duc Chung went deeper into the technical aspects. He did not say anything harsh, but only thoroughly analyzed the strengths and weaknesses of his players. He praised them for playing bravely, without fear, without losing their composure, and that made him very proud. But he also suggested that his players need to learn their own lessons so that in the next match, against Portugal, they will play better.

The conversation lasted for about 10 minutes but did not make things tense. The players then entered the light training session in a relaxed mood. There were no serious health problems for the players. Thanh Nha has recovered from her illness and can play in the match against Portugal on July 27. Some cases of muscle strain have also been supported by doctors to recover (the team added 1 more doctor from Vietnam a few days ago). Everything is going smoothly. But the old general Mai Duc Chung did not smile at all during the training session. "That's my personality, when the work is not finished, I often lose sleep and smile less. I can't smile right now. I'll wait until the 3 group stage matches are over," coach Mai Duc Chung "explained" gently when a reporter asked him to smile in front of the camera.

That afternoon, the whole team sat and watched the match between Portugal and the Netherlands. They watched very attentively and commented non-stop. One player shared that the Portuguese team lost by a narrow margin and had a pretty good game because they were facing an opponent that was not too superior to them. However, the Portuguese team was unlucky. Therefore, in the match against the Vietnamese women's team, they will definitely do their best to defeat their opponent. "So are you afraid?", when asked jokingly, a female player immediately replied: "What is there to be afraid of, we will fight to the end. Our team will try to score in this match. Uncle Chung also told the kids to try their best, this is a match where Vietnam can create a surprise".

According to the plan, coach Mai Duc Chung and his team will practice in Auckland until July 25 and travel to Hamilton City on July 26. The match against Portugal will be played at Waikato Stadium in this city (the stadium has a capacity of 25,000 spectators).
