New recruit of Vietnam team
Coach Kim Sang-sik has announced the list of players for the Vietnamese national team to prepare for two matches in March, against Cambodia (friendly match on March 19) and Laos (2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, March 25).
In the list of the Korean coach, there are notable new recruits such as Pham Ly Duc (HAGL), Vo Hoang Minh Khoa (Binh Duong), and faces who have been tested and now have the opportunity to return such as Nguyen Thai Son (Thanh Hoa), Tran Bao Toan (HAGL).
List of Vietnam team in March training session
Minh Khoa is a prominent face of Binh Duong Club this season. The midfielder born in 2002 has played 14 matches since the beginning of the tournament (12 starting matches), scoring 3 goals, including important goals against Binh Dinh and SLNA in V-League 2024 - 2025. At the age of 23, Minh Khoa has affirmed his position in the capital team, playing 61 matches in V-League.
Last season, he played 23 matches, showed convincing performance and caught the attention of coach Hoang Anh Tuan. Minh Khoa then won a starting position in the 2024 U.23 Asian Cup and has affirmed himself to this day.
Minh Khoa's presence gives the Vietnamese team's midfield more options. At 23 years old, Minh Khoa needs more time to accumulate, however, his ambition will help the midfielder of Binh Duong Club challenge for a starting position.

Besides Minh Khoa, the two "new yet old" midfielders trusted by coach Kim Sang-sik in this call-up are Bao Toan and Thai Son. For Thai Son, the time under coach Philippe Troussier witnessed his rapid growth, when he went from having to compete in the U.22 Vietnam team to being promoted straight to the Vietnam national team.
Although in 2024, Thai Son has not convinced Mr. Kim, but because of his young age and regular playing time in V-League, the midfielder born in 2003 has a ticket to return to prove himself.
In addition, Trieu Viet Hung also returned to the Vietnam national team after nearly 2 years of waiting. He was given a chance to try out by coach Troussier in June 2023.
Center back Ly Duc joins Vietnam national team
Center back Pham Ly Duc is also a surprise choice. The young talent of HAGL has just debuted in V-League this season, but has quickly taken over the starting position. With good height and energetic playing style, Ly Duc was trusted by coach Le Quang Trai, then went straight to the Vietnam national team.
Van Lam was not called.
Goalkeeper Dang Van Lam was not named in the March training session. The 1993-born goalkeeper has been playing hard since the beginning of the season, but playing in the first division has become a barrier preventing him from returning to the national team.
The three goalkeepers called up are Nguyen Filip, Nguyen Dinh Trieu and Nguyen Van Viet. Goalkeeper Tran Trung Kien went down to the U.22 Vietnam team to play a friendly match in China.
The rest of the Vietnamese team is the core force that won the AFF Cup 2024. This is an understandable choice, because no coach would change the winning formula. The core of the squad that just won the championship in Thailand is also at the peak of their careers. Almost certainly, this will continue to be the core squad to play in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
The Vietnamese team will play a friendly match against Cambodia on March 19. On March 25, coach Kim Sang-sik and his team will begin the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers by hosting Laos. Both matches will take place at Binh Duong Province Stadium.
