On the evening of February 8, a post went viral on social media accusing the NH sandwich shop (Quan Thanh, Ba Dinh, Hanoi) of selling black moldy meat to customers. The post was widely shared with thousands of interactions and comments.
Customers complain about "moldy meat" in bread
Customer TT - the poster, said: Around 8pm on February 8, Mr. T. went to the NH sandwich shop and bought a mixed sandwich. When he brought it home, he saw a piece of black meat inside the sandwich.
"Opening the bread, the moldy meat was carefully hidden in the innermost corner of the bread, folded in half to hide the mold! So horrible! I'm posting this so that everyone who goes to eat here can avoid this restaurant," diner T. shared on social media.
Talking to reporters, Mr. T. said: "This is the first time I have eaten bread at this shop. When I arrived, there were two people eating there. I bought a mixed bread for 30,000 VND and brought the bread home, eating it at 10pm that same evening." According to Mr. T., when he had eaten half of the bread, he saw a piece of meat with an unusual black color, so he opened the bread to check.
Mr. T. was so upset that he took a photo of the black meat and posted it on social media accusing the restaurant of "unethical business practices".
Mr. T. said that when he bought the restaurant, there was no invoice. Mr. T. paid via QR code. "The authorities should get involved, I am willing to provide pictures of the payment at the restaurant," Mr. T. affirmed.
"We have not received any complaints, we are still selling as usual"
On the morning of February 9, answering VietNamNet reporter, Mr. Dong - owner of NH sandwich shop said that the shop is still operating normally.
"We have not received any calls from customers complaining about moldy meat in bread. On the evening of February 8, we sold until midnight and reopened this morning, with a stable number of customers.
I read the article shared on social media. I feel a bit uncomfortable. If a customer buys my bread and has a piece of meat like that, with full evidence, I am ready to take responsibility," said Mr. Dong.
"I think consumers will be alert when receiving information. If the meat is moldy, the surrounding area will also be green and moldy. As in the photo, the surrounding area of the meat is pink and fresh, which is unreasonable. In the current cold weather, it is even more difficult to have moldy meat.
In addition, if there is really a piece of meat that is spoiled or dirty, a seller like me will throw that piece of meat away immediately because its value is not high. There is no reason for me to hide the meat in the cake to affect my reputation and cause harm to my business," Mr. Dong added.
According to Mr. Dong, he commented on diner T's post but it was not approved for display.
This sandwich shop has been open for many years in Quan Thanh and has a large, stable customer base.
The leader of Quan Thanh Ward People's Committee said that he had received information about the incident and was verifying and clarifying the information spreading on social networks.
