Juventus fires coach

"Igor Tudor will be the new coach of the Juventus men's team. Welcome back, Igor," Juventus announced on their official fanpage.

"In addition, Juventus also thanks Thiago Motta and his colleagues for their professionalism and dedication in their work over the past months. The club wishes them all the best in the future," the Allianz Stadium team added.

Juventus' board made a quick decision and did not want to give Thiago Motta a chance to salvage the situation in the match against Genoa on March 30, right after the international break.

The Brazilian coach's relationship with Juventus ended after just 10 months. Consecutive defeats to Atalanta and Fiorentina with a combined score of 0-7 in the last two rounds of Serie A and an early exit from the Champions League became the last straw that cost Motta his job. Juventus did not even hold any training sessions this weekend, a sign that the former Bologna coach's future was decided.

Terminating the contract with Motta and his coaching team will cost Juventus around 15 million euros, a huge amount in the context of the club's early elimination from the Champions League.

The factor that helped Tudor sit in the "hot seat" at Allianz was that he agreed to sign a short-term contract with Juventus. When he was still playing, Tudor was famous for being a defender with a fierce playing style. He had a time as an assistant to Andre Pirlo in the 2020/21 season. In June 2024, Tudor said goodbye to Lazio and has been unemployed since then.
