On the afternoon of March 25, in Pattaya (Thailand), the Vietnamese beach soccer team faced Malaysia in a key match for the race for a place in the quarterfinals in Group D of the 2025 Asian Beach Soccer Championship.
The level gap between the two teams is almost equal. In terms of achievements in the Southeast Asian region, the Vietnamese beach soccer team, with 1 champion and 2 runners-up, is ranked above Malaysia (1 champion and 1 runner-up).
According to beach soccer rules, each match has 3 periods, each period lasts 12 minutes and there is a 3-minute break between periods.
There will be no draws in matches. After 3 official periods, if the score is still equal, the two teams will enter a 3-minute extra period. If the score is still tied, a penalty shootout will be held to determine the final winner.
At the beginning of the match between Vietnam and Malaysia beach soccer teams, the two teams played fiercely in the first half.
The Vietnamese players had many good attacking situations but could not take advantage of them successfully.
In the second half, the turning point came for Malaysia in the 21st minute when Muhamad Hafizal made a tricky shot that defeated goalkeeper Anh Quang to open the score.
In this match, Vietnam's main strikers such as Phan Dat and Tran Ngoc Bao continuously had inaccurate shots.
Entering the final half, Malaysia quickly raised the score to 2-0 thanks to Muhammad Zulhairi Ismail, also from a beautiful long-range shot.
After this goal, the Vietnamese team tried to attack, but their shots were all inaccurate.

The surprise happened in the 34th minute, after a smart run and taking advantage of the opponent's goalkeeper's hesitation to rush out to close the angle, Pham Truong Du Anh had a good shot to put the ball into the net, shortening the score to 1-2 for Vietnam.
The joy of the Vietnamese players did not last long when in the 36th minute, Muhamad Hafizal completed his double with a long-range shot into the far corner of the goal, sealing a 3-1 victory for the Malaysian beach soccer team.
With this result, the Vietnamese beach soccer team has no chance of passing the group stage. However, this is still a memorable tournament for coach Mai Van Duc and his team when they made a miracle by defeating former Asian champions Bahrain to have the first victory in the history of participating in the 2025 Asian Beach Soccer Championship.
