For a long time, candidates often come to the Temple of Literature to touch the turtle's head to pray for success. But recently, they have taken it a step further by writing their wishes for good luck on paper to present as offerings.

People imagine many so-called "spiritual" things to guide their children to fulfill their wishes. In addition to touching the turtle's head and writing a petition, there is now an additional "curtain" of using one's finger to touch the velvet cloth, where there is the line "Talents are the vital energy of the nation" by Than Nhan Trung to ask for passing the exam and becoming a talented person.

Parents and candidates came to offer gifts, holding money in their hands, silently praying. Looking at this image, one can only say that it is superstitious and blind. Money, bargaining, and trading with gods. Recently, before the public 10th grade entrance exam, many parents and candidates went to the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam to pray. They brought "10th grade entrance exam notification forms", prepared prayers with their children's full names and registration numbers. On the table for offerings, many families also brought pens and registration numbers to pray for their children's luck.

But that's not all, there's one more thing, which is fortune telling in exams. Fortune telling has appeared again in exams.

“This year, students are predicting the exam results and are placing their trust in the works: The Ferryman of the Da River, A Phu's Wife, Who Named the River, The Picked-Up Wife, The Country, and Tay Tien. Students should not predict (predict the exam results), this is very dangerous because the Ministry has no instructions on zoning the works, most exams in previous years still cause surprises for candidates who memorized the work. Reviewing the main points and comprehensively will help students have a proactive and confident mindset to complete the exam well” - Ms. Dinh Thi Thuy, a teacher at Phenikaa School, shared in the newspaper some notes for students when reviewing for the exam.

It is time for us to seriously analyze and review this activity, considered a "cultural practice", to determine whether it is necessary to "preserve" it or should be eliminated.

For our children's generation, young people will be global citizens, integrated into the civilized world, and cannot believe in such unscientific things.

Everyone is shouting about the Fourth Industrial Revolution and 4.0 technology, but taking their children to pray and ask for help to pass exams is something that is too strange for the civilized world. If we let our children be influenced by superstition, believing in divine protection rather than making efforts to study and themselves, it will be harmful not only to some people but also to many generations.
