NDO - From November 21-23, the 2024 National Scientific Conference on Surgery and Endoscopic Surgery with the theme Sharing knowledge - Shaping the future was held in Ho Chi Minh City. This is an annual event of the Vietnam Association of Surgery and Endoscopic Surgery, this year co-hosted by the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City in a series of events celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Hospital's establishment (1994-2024).
This year's surgical conference is the largest scientific forum, attracting the participation of nearly 2,000 Professors, Associate Professors, Doctors, Nurses, medical managers and leaders of medical facilities, with 420 domestic reporters and chairmen, 8 foreign reporters from the United States, Australia, Japan, and Korea. The conference includes 44 reporting sessions taking place in parallel in 12 halls, with nearly 400 scientific reports from medical facilities across the country.
The main contents will revolve around new research and techniques in the field of surgery and endoscopic surgery, especially minimally invasive treatments. Featured topics include Surgical treatment of digestive cancers; Advances in organ transplantation in Vietnam; Joint replacement surgery and arthroscopy; Wound treatment and management; Advances in cardiac and thoracic surgery...
Notably, the demonstration surgeries were broadcast live at Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Cho Ray Hospital, Binh Dan Hospital and Tam Anh Hospital during the pre-conference training sessions, providing valuable experiences for the delegates attending.

Prof. Dr. Tran Binh Giang, President of the Vietnam Association of Surgery and Endoscopic Surgery, spoke at the conference: The Vietnam Association of Surgery and Endoscopic Surgery is a gathering place for leading scientists nationwide in the field of surgery and endoscopic surgery, and is one of the pioneering associations that always excellently completes its assigned tasks. The Association has been recognized by the State, the Ministry of Health and relevant ministries, departments and branches and awarded noble prizes. In particular, in 2023, the Association was honored to receive the Third Class Labor Medal from the President for its work in caring for and protecting people's health. This is the result of the efforts, sacrifices and struggles of generations of doctors and medical staff throughout the history of development and integration, with the efforts of many generations of Association leaders who have worked hard to build and develop the Association, contributing to bringing Vietnam's surgical profession on par with other countries in the world.
The theme of this year's conference "Sharing knowledge - Shaping the future" not only reflects the vision and mission of the Vietnam Association of Surgical and Endoscopic Surgery but also demonstrates the commitment to improving the quality of treatment and healthcare for the people. The 2024 Vietnam Association of Surgical and Endoscopic Surgery brings together senior surgeons and the next generations, together to look back on the development journey and honor important contributions.
This is not only an occasion to honor the development history of the industry, but also an opportunity to determine strategic steps for the future, for a strong and advanced Vietnamese surgical industry. On this occasion, the Association announced the decision to establish and launch the Vietnam Colorectal Surgery Association under the Vietnam Association of Surgery and Endoscopic Surgery.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Conference, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Anh Dung, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, affirmed that this is a national-level medical science event, an opportunity for experts to exchange experiences, update modern techniques, and at the same time promote the multi-specialty development of the city's health sector, aiming to build Ho Chi Minh City into a regional health care center in ASEAN by 2030.
The Vietnam Surgical Association was established in 1962. Currently, the Association has 66 members in the Executive Committee, more than 2,000 members nationwide who are professors, associate professors, doctors, and physicians working at medical facilities. In each region and each medical facility, surgeons always try their best to gain the trust of patients, so that patients do not have to transfer or go abroad for treatment.
