On the evening of October 26, the Vietnamese women's team lost 0-1 to Uzbekistan in the opening match of the second qualifying round of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Coach Mai Duc Chung is not satisfied with the performance of the Vietnamese women's team.
Speaking after the match, coach Mai Duc Chung said: “I want to apologize to the fans for this result. The responsibility lies with me.”
In this match, Huynh Nhu and her teammates held the ball and attacked quite a bit but could not penetrate the opponent's defense once.
Talking about this, coach Mai Duc Chung frankly admitted that the girls in red lost because they played poorly, not because their opponents were too strong.
“The Uzbekistan players did not play sharp, they used a lot of long balls and did not cover each other. However, we had a bad match.
It must be admitted that the Vietnamese women's team lacked coordination. We had more strength. In addition, the players failed to take advantage of the strengths of low passes.
Instead, they played high balls, leading to losing their advantage to Uzbekistan, a team that had taller players," Mr. Chung analyzed.
In this match, the girls in red also suffered many disadvantages from the referee's decisions.
Talking about this, coach Mai Duc Chung said that the referees could not follow all the situations happening on the field and there were many wrong whistles.
However, the Hanoi-born coach still affirmed: "Of course, I don't blame the referee for losing.
But there were situations where the Vietnamese women's team deserved a free kick. Our players were fouled but were ignored."
