Lunar New Year is the time when many accidents occur due to fireworks, especially homemade fireworks.
Although the law prohibits the production, storage and use of fireworks, homemade fireworks continue to occur, especially among young people. Tragic accidents caused by fireworks not only cause great damage to health but also leave lifelong consequences, affecting the lives and families of the victims.

One of the most recent accidents was the case of patient DVN (28 years old, residing in Phu Binh, Thai Nguyen). On January 27, the patient was hospitalized in a serious state of multiple injuries after making homemade firecrackers. He suffered a crushed right eyeball and many other serious injuries.
Doctors had to surgically remove his eyeball and right index finger because the damage was so severe. The patient had previously bought materials to make fireworks and while making them, the fireworks suddenly exploded, causing serious injuries.
According to Dr. Ngoc, injuries from firecrackers are often very complicated and difficult to treat, especially when they affect many parts of the body such as the eyes, hands, face and internal organs.
Fireworks injuries are not only painful but also leave lifelong sequelae, causing loss of function of some body parts and affecting the patient's quality of life.
In particular, near Tet, accidents caused by homemade fireworks often increase. According to statistics, most patients injured by fireworks are teenagers, between the ages of 10 and 16.
Children often make their own fireworks for fun or experimentation, not realizing how dangerous they can be. These accidents often have serious consequences such as burns, loss of sight, loss of limbs or even death.
According to medical experts, firecrackers not only cause skin burns but can also cause serious damage to important organs in the body.
Injuries can include eye damage, hand injuries, severe burns, organ damage, and toxic fumes. Fireworks can cause permanent blindness due to fragments piercing the eyeball or heat damage. Fingers can be amputated or bones broken due to the force of the explosion.
Severe skin burns to the face, hands, and other parts of the body. Fireworks can also cause serious damage to internal organs such as the heart, lungs, and nervous system. Toxic gases from fireworks can damage the respiratory tract, leading to suffocation and other serious illnesses.
Therefore, not only homemade fireworks but also the use of firecrackers also pose high risks. Therefore, doctors recommend not to arbitrarily make or use firecrackers in any form, especially during the Lunar New Year.
Faced with the constant occurrence of accidents caused by homemade fireworks, doctors and authorities have called for vigilance and strict compliance with legal regulations.
Dr. Ngoc, a medical expert at Thai Nguyen Central Hospital, emphasized that families, especially parents, need to actively educate their children about the dangers of firecrackers and strictly prohibit the making of homemade firecrackers. At the same time, authorities and schools also need to strengthen propaganda and legal education for the community, especially students and young people.
Also in a recent report by the Ministry of Public Security, authorities discovered more than 588 cases related to fireworks and arrested 766 people, seizing more than 16,500 kg of various types of fireworks.
The Ministry of Public Security emphasized that the production, storage and use of firecrackers, including fireworks, are strictly prohibited, except for organizations and individuals permitted by law. The Ministry of Public Security recommends that people clearly distinguish between firecrackers and fireworks.
Fireworks are non-explosive, light-emitting devices that do not make loud noises. Agencies, organizations and individuals can purchase fireworks from licensed stores, but must comply with regulations on safe use.
To avoid breaking the law and ensure safety, the Ministry of Public Security recommends that people do not arbitrarily manufacture, produce or trade fireworks. It is necessary to clearly distinguish between permitted fireworks and prohibited fireworks.
When buying fireworks, people should only buy them from licensed stores and use them during holidays, birthdays, and weddings according to regulations. It is also important to pay attention to safety when using fireworks to avoid causing fires or accidents to yourself and the community.
Accidents caused by homemade fireworks not only cause injuries to the victims but also place a burden on families and society. To avoid unfortunate consequences, people need to obey the law and educate their children about the dangers of fireworks.
Tet is a time for family reunions, but it is also a time when we must always remember to keep ourselves and the community safe.
