On November 27th, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital announced that it had recently admitted three teenagers with serious injuries from using homemade firecrackers.

This is the case of NK (13 years old) and NTA (14 years old), cousins residing in Vinh Phuc , who were admitted to the hospital with severe bleeding wounds on both hands. NK's wounds were particularly serious, with crushed first fingers on both hands and open fractures of the metacarpophalangeal joints.
During the initial treatment of the patient, the trauma doctors consulted with the plastic surgeon because the crushing injuries were so severe that it was impossible to preserve the first finger of both hands.
Accordingly, the doctor performed amputation of the first finger on both hands, attempting to preserve the remaining fingers. Currently, three days after surgery, the patient's condition is stable and the wounds are dry.
The other case involves GB (12 years old, residing in Hung Yen province ) who was admitted to the hospital with a fractured first metacarpal bone of the left hand and a wound on the left lower leg, which had been debrided and treated for skin lacerations.
The patient needs rehabilitation exercises, aiming to restore the hand to its original function, striving for maximum recovery.
At Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, the number of accidents caused by homemade firecrackers always increases significantly during and leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year).
The main causes often stem from purchasing illegal fireworks of unknown origin, accessing unofficial information on social media, and making fireworks at home.
These accidents not only cause serious physical injuries but also leave severe psychological and financial consequences for patients and their families.
Dr. Nguyen Van Su, MD, MSc - Department of On-Demand Treatment, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, advises: People should not arbitrarily manufacture or use illegal firecrackers, especially homemade ones.
This is not only a violation of the law but also poses a risk of serious injury, even death.
People need to raise their awareness, absolutely refrain from buying, selling, or using illegal fireworks, and guide their children to stay away from these dangerous activities to protect their own safety and the safety of the community.
