Construction started in 2016, but the underpass at Station 2 intersection on Hanoi Highway, from Ho Chi Minh City to Dong Nai, is still unfinished.
Construction began in 2016, the underpass at Station 2 intersection on Hanoi Highway (from Ho Chi Minh City to Dong Nai) aims to solve traffic congestion, connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Binh Duong, Dong Nai provinces and the Southeast and Central Highlands regions...
The Station 2 Interchange is designed with modern multi-levels, including a flyover with four circles of 420m diameter and road branches with a total area of 27ha. The project is invested by Ho Chi Minh City Infrastructure Investment Joint Stock Company (CII) under the BOT (build - operate - transfer) form with an open-type tunnel scale.
Initially, the project was targeted to be completed in 2018, but by June 2023, the left parallel tunnel (from Dong Nai to Ho Chi Minh City) was over 1km long and was completed and put into use. The opposite branch, the right parallel tunnel (from Ho Chi Minh City to Dong Nai), is 980m long and is still unfinished, with an unknown completion date.
A representative of the Hanoi Highway and National Highway 1 Construction Investment Joint Stock Company (under CII Company) said that the unfinished section still has nearly 30 households in Tan Phu Ward, Thu Duc City. If the site is handed over, the contractor can complete the project in about 4 months. Meanwhile, Thu Duc City is also resolving the problem to reclaim the site for the project.
There is no construction site, the underpass area is fenced off, materials are gathered, grass is growing wildly while vehicles have to take a long and inconvenient detour.
"The underpass is still not completed, while people have to take a detour that is both long and has dangerous curves. We really hope the road will be completed so that people can travel smoothly," said Ms. Ngoc, a resident living near the area. In the photo, the underpass from Dong Nai to Ho Chi Minh City has been completed, spacious and airy.
In addition to the Tram 2 intersection tunnel, the project to upgrade the Hanoi Highway from Tram 2 intersection to Tan Van intersection (4.2 km long) has not been completed. To date, the progress of this section has reached more than 91% of the workload, but many locations cannot be constructed due to land clearance problems.
Recently, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport and Public Works has proposed relevant units to remove difficulties related to the project. In particular, Thu Duc City is requested to speed up the progress of resolving the land issues to hand over to the investor.
