The Activation Ceremony of Foreign Language Self-Study Month 2025 is an important activity, marking a new step forward in the innovation of foreign language teaching and learning methods, meeting the increasingly high requirements of modern education.
This practical movement aims to encourage students of high schools in the city to improve their self-study ability, develop language skills, and create a vibrant, effective, and creative learning environment.
This is also a breakthrough solution in the management and support of students' self-study activities. The system will help schools and working groups to conveniently monitor and evaluate learning outcomes, creating a space for students to share experiences, exchange knowledge and progress together to become "global citizens" who are good at expertise, foreign languages, and information technology.
Previously, implementing Conclusion No. 91 of the Politburo on continuing to implement Resolution No. 29-NQ/TU, which includes the content of gradually making English the second language in schools, on January 9, 2025, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training held a launching ceremony for the "Foreign Language Self-Study Month" movement for all students and teachers of educational institutions in the city with more than 1,000 teachers, principals and managers.
Since then, the FSEL online learning platform has had more than 615,000 registered participants, including more than 593,000 students and nearly 22,000 teachers. Of which, the number of accounts that have completed verification is nearly 615,000 (100% of the number of registrations); the number of accounts that have completed and are completing the English proficiency assessment is more than 515,000 (83.86% of the number of accounts that have completed verification).
According to Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong, right from the first days of implementation, the Foreign Language Self-Study Month movement has received special attention from students, teachers and schools. Many students, after completing the proficiency test, wanted to start studying immediately. Many teachers and principals also proactively registered for the proficiency test and enthusiastically participated in the 4-week self-study journey.
Along with that, some schools have launched self-study movements and introduced their own forms of rewards. These are really great motivations to help students become more interested and determined in the learning process.
Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong emphasized: The foreign language self-study month is also an activity to effectively implement Circular No. 29 dated December 30, 2024 of the Ministry of Education and Training regulating extra teaching and learning, promoting the movement of self-awareness, initiative and positivity in the team of teachers and students; synchronously deploying solutions, in which awareness is important.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong emphasized the role of self-study for students, teachers and all people; at the same time, he acknowledged and highly appreciated the proactive creativity of the capital's education, not only in self-study of foreign languages but also in self-study of other subjects.
Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong proposed to popularize and replicate the Foreign Language Self-Study Month model in Hanoi nationwide, aiming to build a learning society and a lifelong learning movement, and believes that with a determined and unified spirit and specific approaches, Hanoi's Foreign Language Self-Study Month will be successfully implemented and have a strong influence.
