In a March 10 post on social media X , Tulsi Gabbard expressed excitement about the “multi-nation tour” in the Indo-Pacific region that she “knows very well.” The US Director of National Intelligence emphasized the importance of building strong relationships, promoting understanding, and maintaining open channels of communication in achieving President Donald Trump’s goals of peace, freedom, and prosperity.

Ms. Tulsi Gabbard's journey began with a stop in Honolulu, Hawaii on March 12, where she is expected to meet with leaders of the Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM), interact with military and intelligence officers, and attend training programs of US soldiers...

According to ANI, the former Democratic congressman's visit is expected to deepen diplomatic relations and enhance exchanges in important areas of mutual interest between the US and the above countries.

Highlights of the speech at the Rasina Dialogue

In an article published in The New York Times , Mr. Julian E. Barnes, a reporter specializing in US intelligence and international security issues, commented that the highlight of Ms. Gabbard's trip to Asia was her speech at the Rasina Dialogue on March 18. This is India's main multilateral forum, discussing foreign policy, geopolitical and geostrategic issues.

Here, the US Director of National Intelligence is expected to have bilateral meetings with officials from India and other countries.

The Rasina Dialogue, an annual event organized by the Observer Research Foundation (ORF), is typically attended by senior security officials and Russian experts. However, according to The New York Times , it is unclear whether Ms. Gabbard will have bilateral meetings with Russian officials on the sidelines of the conference.

The Trump administration is pushing for a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, pressuring Kiev to make concessions to end the more than three-year conflict.

Comments by US officials at the Munich Security Conference last month stunned many European diplomats, particularly Vice President JD Vance’s criticism of Europe for what he said were restrictions on free speech, loss of control over immigration…

However, Ms. Gabbard's remarks at the conference, focusing on counter-terrorism cooperation between Europe and the US, were warmly received by European officials.

The New York Times quoted a senior US official as saying that Ms. Gabbard intended to highlight similar topics at the Rasina Dialogue, such as how to address counterterrorism, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and intelligence sharing.

Notably, Ms. Gabbard’s presence in New Delhi marks the first trip by a senior White House official to India under the Trump administration. The visit comes more than a month after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip to the US (February 12-13). After meeting Ms. Gabbard, the Indian leader described the new US Director of National Intelligence as a “strong supporter” of the growing friendship between New Delhi and Washington.

Coming at a time of deepening defence and intelligence cooperation between the US and India, according to Swarajya , Ms Gabbard's visit signals the Trump administration's strategic focus on New Delhi as a key partner in the Indo-Pacific.
