This is the first individual to receive this prestigious award.

At the ceremony, Da Nang Hospital received the Azurion 7 digital subtraction angiography (DSA) system sponsored by the “Heart for the Heart” organization. At the same time, the Da Nang city government deeply appreciated the great, persistent and humane contributions of Professor Erich Johann Lejeune and his wife to the development of the city’s health sector, especially in the field of cardiovascular intervention.

“Heart for Heart” is a non-governmental organization founded by Professor Erich Johann Lejeune and Dr. Irène Lejeune in Germany, and has been working with the Da Nang health sector since 2006. Over nearly 20 years of association, this organization has provided advanced medical equipment worth millions of Euros, while coordinating the training of cardiovascular experts and transferring modern techniques, contributing to improving the quality of congenital heart disease treatment at Da Nang Hospital.

Thanks to the persistent support of the "Heart for Heart" Organization, by 2024, Da Nang Hospital had organized free screening for congenital heart disease for more than 350,000 children in Da Nang and the Central Highlands region, detecting nearly 3,000 cases early for timely treatment.

In 2024, Professor Lejeune and his wife will continue to sponsor the DSA Azurion 7 system worth 1 million euros (equivalent to 27 billion VND), marking the third time they have donated modern cardiovascular intervention equipment to Da Nang Hospital. This system is considered one of the most advanced equipment in Vietnam today, helping to improve the effectiveness of cardiovascular examination and treatment for people.

Speaking at the program, Vice Chairman of Da Nang City People's Committee Le Quang Nam expressed his deep gratitude for the noble deeds of Professor Erich Johann Lejeune and his wife, and affirmed: "The noble hearts of the couple are a symbol of love, sharing and a driving force for Da Nang Hospital to constantly develop and become a high-quality medical center in the Central Highlands region".

Dr. Le Duc Nhan, Director of Da Nang Hospital, emotionally shared: “For more than two decades, Professor Lejeune and his wife have not only been philanthropists but also close friends of Da Nang Hospital. Their great contributions, both material and spiritual, have helped turn the Cardiovascular Center into a bright spot in regional healthcare, reviving thousands of hearts, bringing joy and hope to thousands of families.”

The first “Dedication to Da Nang” award is a worthy recognition for Professor Erich Johann Lejeune, who has spread kindness and contributed to beautifying the image of the affectionate and humane city of Da Nang.
