How is Ta Minh Tam's 'Autumn Dream' different from Le Quyen's version?

I like Tam's singing, it doesn't mean that other people's singing isn't good. But here, have you ever had the feeling that your child was born, you longed for it and wished for it to be like that. Suddenly one day, due to circumstances, someone else took care of it. It still grew up, but it was not at all like you wanted. Of course, you can't blame the person who took care of it. But you still want it to be the child you wanted one day. And my child, That Autumn Dream , is Ta Minh Tam's recording.

"First Day of School" by Autumn Dream was recorded by My Tam at Viet Tan studio and mixed by me. Because I mixed it, Tam sang the right notes, but it was quite bland. That's right, because Tam didn't have any experience at that time...

Autumn dreams are sad but not miserable. Because the more you miss, the more intensely you must live.

When Autumn Dream went to "elementary school", an incident happened, leading to a series of mistakes later, because everyone used Le Quyen's recording as a model. Le Quyen sang the best and most important notes of Autumn Dream wrongly: the two sharp notes in the minor 4th degree melody were pulled down to a flat note, and then the sharp note in the 4th degree changed to a flat note. As a result, the part "I still remember who... every time the afternoon falls" which should have been a 7th degree harmony to be drawn to a 5th degree was mostly used online as a 4th degree harmony, clearly reducing the appeal of the melody and harmony.

Le Quyen cannot be blamed, but the producer of this album must be blamed. He should have played the notes correctly. Because of the minor melody, if you are not careful, you will tend to sing in normal notes for ease. Singers who have not been through training often have difficulty realizing this (I wonder who played the notes for Quyen during the recording, and is the wrong note due to the arranger or the singer?).

Since then, Autumn Dream began to be known through Le Quyen's voice. Everyone praised it. As for me, I was saddened by the "minor melody and sharp note at the 4th degree". These notes created the musical identity of Autumn Dream , but were sung incorrectly. So, I kept thinking that one day, I would have to bring back the original form of the song. And then that day came: it was Ta Minh Tam's recording. Why? Because I personally re-harmonized it, and Tam was also a scholar, so he understood the scale very well.

I know that because listeners are used to the wrong thing, it's not easy for them to accept the right recording. How miserable! Being used to eating MSG, suddenly eating it raw is very difficult. Going against the grain makes it difficult to go right.

Because I am the father of Autumn Dream , I understand my child well. He does not have to be so tearful and pathetic. He has to cry without tears. He is sad but not pathetic. Because the more one misses, the more intensely one must live!

Someone texted me: "Why doesn't Tam sound sad when he sings?". I thought to myself: he sounds more sad than sad! His sadness is that of someone who has experienced everything. So it flows inward!

Someone who seemed knowledgeable asked, "Does this song sound like Russian music?". I asked back, "Is the minor key melody from Vietnam or Russia?"

Some people said: "Mr. Tam sings too hard! But he tries to make it soft." I understand, a warrior, his voice, is used to heroic songs, how can it be soft like a lyrical singer!

But then one day, a veteran neighbor of mine said he liked Autumn Dream . I immediately played him Tam's recording. After listening, he said: "I think I feel like he's crying while singing?". I was moved and thought to myself: "Maybe he misses his late wife?" Because I saw that this veteran lived alone in silence. It's true that only a warrior can understand the voice of a warrior!".

Every time I get a new record, I listen to it. I apologize to the singers of the previous versions, and to those who fell in love with those versions. It's not your fault! I just want to return my child to its original form.
