The statue of Trinh Cong Son was inaugurated on the afternoon of February 28 at Trinh Cong Son Park (Trinh Cong Son Street, Hue City) exactly 85 years after his birth.
The statue was made by sculptor Truong Dinh Que, sponsored by a businessman in Ho Chi Minh City who loves Trinh's music and donated to Hue City. It is made of bronze, 1.7m high, 1.6m wide, and 2.3m long.
Immediately after the statue was inaugurated and some images were spread on social networks, the statue received both praise and criticism from Trinh's music fans.
Previously, the statue of Trinh Cong Son in Quy Nhon City was also heavily criticized by the online community.
At that time, the Department of Culture and Sports of Binh Dinh province worked with the consulting unit to adjust the proportions and some specific details for the statue of musician Trinh Cong Son according to the direction of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the comments of the late musician's family.
Regarding this statue, some opinions say that sculptor Truong Dinh Que captured the spirit of the late musician Trinh Cong Son: "the statue has a soul", "shows Trinh Cong Son's thoughts", "looking at the statue reminds me of him"...
Besides, some comments said "it's strange that author Truong Dinh Que let musician Trinh Cong Son wear loafers. Trinh Cong Son never wore those shoes. The sculpture's value is therefore greatly reduced".
Many people commented on the statue's appearance: "The sitting posture with legs crossed is reprehensible, not Trinh Cong Son at all", "the sitting posture looks like me", "sitting arrogantly", "Trinh Cong Son's style is gentler and more modest"...
What did Trinh Cong Son's family say?
Responding to Tuoi Tre Online at noon on February 29, singer Trinh Vinh Trinh - the youngest sister of the late musician - shared that "the family would like to acknowledge and respect all contributions and opinions because praise or criticism all come from admiration for Mr. Son".
As for fans' comments, the musician's sister said that while he was alive, "Mr. Son often wore lace-up shoes but sometimes he still wore loafers. Yes, not no."
Regarding sitting posture, singer Trinh Vinh Trinh said "Mr. Son is often like that".
According to her, when he was alive, the musician often sat alone like that at home. He had a "sitting style that was half sitting, half lying down, with his hand on his forehead or holding a cigarette and thinking, or pondering something".
Previously, speaking to Tuoi Tre Online on February 26, commenting on the statue, Mr. Nguyen Trung Truc - singer Trinh Vinh Trinh's husband and family representative - said that "the statue is beautiful, expressing the true spirit and artistic qualities of Trinh Cong Son".
"Mr. Son, now you can peacefully watch the Perfume River"
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Trinh Cong Son statue on February 28 in Hue, singer Trinh Vinh Trinh emotionally shared:
"During his lifetime, Mr. Son traveled and was attached to many lands in the beloved country of Vietnam, but Hue will always be his origin, the land that creates inspiration and has left a great mark on his creative career.
Without Hue, it would be difficult to imagine the complete musical appearance of musician Trinh Cong Son.
Placing Trinh Cong Son's statue here is his return to our homeland. Son, now you can peacefully watch the Huong River and the quiet flow of life in the way you always wanted."
