Acne is one of the biggest worries for teenagers during puberty. At this age, their facial skin suddenly starts rebelling with those annoying little pimples.

Why do pimples plague the faces of teenage girls and boys so much? There are five main reasons.

First, hormonal changes are the number one culprit. During puberty, the body produces more sex hormones (androgens), stimulating the sebaceous glands to become more active. Excess sebum clogs pores, creating a breeding ground for bacteria and causing acne.

Secondly, improper skincare is a contributing factor. Washing your face too often or using unsuitable cleansers can worsen acne. While washing your face frequently might seem like it cleans better, it can actually exacerbate acne. Why is washing your face too often counterproductive? Washing your face too frequently (more than twice a day) strips away the skin's natural protective oils.

Don't pick at your pimples; they don't like being poked or squeezed! Touching your face feeds the pimples with bacteria, so don't do that! If necessary, let a dermatologist handle it.

Thirdly, an unhealthy diet is a major factor. Eating too much fried food, sweets, and cow's milk can increase insulin levels, stimulating the sebaceous glands to become more active. A deficiency in nutrients like zinc, vitamins A and E also weakens the skin. Dry, flaky skin due to vitamin deficiency makes acne more likely. Eat plenty of vegetables, drink plenty of water, and maintain a balanced diet of protein, fat, carbohydrates, and vitamins. And don't let constipation get the better of you!

Fourthly, stress and lack of sleep can contribute to acne. Stressful studying and staying up late disrupt hormonal balance and bodily functions, leading to more breakouts.

Fifth is genetics. If parents have had a lot of acne, their children are more likely to have acne than others. This is because parents with oily skin, large pores, and high hormone production will pass these traits on to their children.

In addition, environmental pollution and weather changes can damage the skin, causing more acne to develop.

If you have a lot of pimples that are inflamed and red, don't be embarrassed; you must see a doctor immediately, because if left untreated, the pimples can become infected and leave unsightly scars.
