KED Global revealed that the head of Samsung's mobile division asked the company's engineers to make its Galaxy Z series smartphones thinner and as thin as the Galaxy S series phones.
The Galaxy S series is currently the thinnest phone line with the S24 Ultra being 8.4mm thin, the S24 and S24+ being 7.6mm and 7.7mm thin. If Samsung succeeds, the Z Flip7 and Z Fold7 could be as thin as 8.4mm.
The report also revealed that the company will launch the Z Fold6 Slim or Z Fold6 Ultra later this year. It will be thinner than 10mm and have an 8-inch display. This will be a lighter and thinner version of the Galaxy Z Fold6 without S Pen support. This product will launch in China as the Samsung W25 and will be released in October.
Ross Young also claims that the panels for this new device will be thinner and will start shipping in Q4 2024 and could launch in Q1 2025 alongside the Galaxy S25.
The newly launched Z Fold6 is 12.1mm thin, a huge improvement over the first foldable phone (17.1mm). Therefore, the next products will be able to be even thinner. Hopefully, when the screen thinness is improved, the screen and hinge durability will also be enhanced.
