This is the third time in 13 years that Ho Chi Minh City has accompanied the Ministry in hosting the national science and technology research competition. According to Deputy Minister Pham Ngoc Thuong, this year's competition took place in a very special and exciting context, in the atmosphere of celebrating the 50th anniversary of National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).

In addition, this year's competition also has many new points, taking place in the context of the Politburo signing and issuing Resolution No. 57 on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation - the Resolution is considered as "contract 10" in science and technology - the competition is a step to prepare for breakthroughs in science, technology and innovation, digital transformation, and has been investing in people.

“Scientists and experts assess that when Resolution 57 comes into effect, the education sector must bring science, technology, and innovation into schools from the smallest activities, from the simplest but possibly boldest imaginations, starting from high school. From there, students - future citizens - will be formed with dreams, aspirations, innovative thinking, and the spirit of scientists from high school,” Deputy Minister Pham Ngoc Thuong emphasized.

According to Deputy Minister Pham Ngoc Thuong, this year's contest is organized in that spirit, continuing to implement Resolution 29 while urgently implementing Conclusion No. 91, which emphasizes the comprehensive development of students' capacity and qualities; taking innovation, creativity, science and technology, digital transformation, and gradually making English the second language as a breakthrough in educational innovation in the coming school years.

According to the Ministry's leaders, organizing the competition at the grassroots level is extremely important. The issue is not whether students win high or low prizes, but more importantly, it is to create a movement of innovation, scientific research, research on science and technology, and innovation. Because from that movement, we will select individuals, groups, projects, and topics to participate in the competition.

In the 2024-2025 school year, the competition will have the participation of 62/63 Departments of Education and Training and 12 units of universities, colleges, institutes, and research institutes with high schools; high schools under ministries and ministerial-level agencies.

The contest had a total of 212 projects from 401 students, including 190 projects from 358 high school students and 22 projects from 43 middle school students.

This year's projects are in 22 fields including: Animal science, social and behavioral sciences, biochemistry, biomedical and health sciences, biomedical engineering, cell and molecular biology, chemistry, computational biology and bioinformatics, Earth and environmental sciences, embedded systems, chemical energy, physical energy, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, materials science, mathematics, microbiology, physics and astronomy, plant science, robotics and intelligent machines, systems software, translational medicine.

From the competition results, the Ministry of Education and Training will select the projects that win the highest prizes and are qualified to participate in the International Science and Technology Competition for high school students scheduled to take place in May 2025 in the US.
