Expected start date of construction of the expansion of the access road to the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway
The investment project to expand the access road to Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway (from An Phu intersection to Ring Road 2) will start construction in the third quarter of 2025.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has just sent a report to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on the investment plan for the project to expand the access road to the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway (from An Phu intersection to Ring Road 2) from 4 lanes to 8 lanes.

According to the plan established by the Department of Transport, the project implementation period is from 2024 to 2027.
Specifically, from the second quarter to the third quarter of 2024, the investment policy proposal will be prepared, submitted for appraisal and approval. From the fourth quarter of 2024 to the first quarter of 2025, the feasibility study report will be prepared and submitted to the competent authority for appraisal and approval.
Some other tasks such as design approval and construction contractor selection will be carried out from the first quarter to the third quarter of 2025.
The project will start construction in the third quarter of 2025; put into operation from the fourth quarter of 2026; final settlement of the project in the second quarter of 2027.
The project has a total investment of VND938.9 billion, from the Ho Chi Minh City budget. The Department of Transport proposed to allocate VND156.5 billion for the 2024-2025 period.
In the following years, 470 billion VND will be allocated in 2026; more than 312 billion VND will be allocated in 2027 to implement the Project.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, according to survey data in July 2023 in the traffic directions to Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway, around the Ring Road 2 intersection, the traffic volume is about 71,667 CPU/day and night.
The number of vehicles in circulation has exceeded the capacity of the road section from An Phu intersection to Ring Road 2, which is only designed to handle about 50,000 CPUs/day and night by 2025.
Therefore, investment in expanding the expressway section from Ho Chi Minh City to Long Thanh, including the section from An Phu intersection to Ring Road 2, is very necessary and urgent to connect to Long Thanh International Airport and solve the current traffic congestion.
