Students of Rach Kien High School (Can Duoc district) participate in presentations in English
Inspire passion in students
Following the journey of conquering knowledge of students, teachers are clearly aware of their responsibility in teaching. In particular, English teachers always care and make efforts to inspire the passion for English in students by changing teaching methods in a positive and effective direction.
In recent years, Mr. Nguyen Le Thanh Nam - English teacher at Rach Kien High School (Can Duoc district, Long An province), no longer teaches simply with blackboards and chalk, but combines the use of interactive boards with many new and interesting functions to make students more interested and excited in learning English. He also uses platforms such as Padlet, Azota, Quizizz,... to assign and correct homework for students at any time, not necessarily just in class, helping them have more opportunities to practice, learn and improve in this subject.
In particular, when applying the new curriculum and textbooks to teaching English, Mr. Thanh Nam tries even harder, taking advantage of the strengths of the new curriculum and textbooks, promoting students' abilities, especially English communication skills, self-study and research spirit.
Teacher Thanh Nam said: “To help students become good at English is a long and regular journey. Therefore, I am not hasty or impatient, but strive to help them change and improve little by little in learning English. In class, I often divide them into small groups. Each group has good and excellent students as group leaders. In the group, students will help each other when there are students who do not fully understand the knowledge or want to improve more, in which, the main responsibility belongs to the group leader.
In addition, the school has an English club that helps spread the love of English to all students in the school; this is also a place to discover and nurture excellent students to participate in competitions for excellent students in culture, public speaking, Golden Bell, etc. Thanks to changing teaching methods and creating a favorable learning environment, students become more confident, interested and passionate about learning English."
The English learning conditions of students in remote and border districts are still difficult. Therefore, English teachers try harder to make up for the disadvantages for students. With a sense of responsibility, love for the profession and dedication to students, Mr. Mai Thanh Tong - English teacher, Binh Hoa Secondary School (Duc Hue district), always tries to inspire students to learn English. He shares with students about the role of English in life, an important tool to discover new knowledge and especially the necessity of English in future careers to arouse students' learning spirit and passion for English.
Teacher Thanh Tong confided: “Only when students have passion and interest in the subject will they try their best to study. Depending on the students and the learning spirit of the class, I have appropriate teaching methods. For students who are not good at English, I ask simple questions that are appropriate to their abilities to answer, helping them to be bold, confident and gradually love the subject more. For good and excellent students, I help them develop their abilities with difficult questions. Thanks to that, weak students do not feel left out in class and good students do not feel bored, helping to inspire them to study.”
iSMART program in primary school
In addition to learning English in the main curriculum, many primary school students in Tan An City participate in learning English through the iSMART program (a form of socialized education). This is a program that teaches English to students through Math and Science, using iSMART digital lectures and interactive technology. Participating in the iSMART program, students have 4 lessons per week. Of which, 2 lessons are directly with foreign teachers to improve listening, speaking and pronunciation skills; 2 lessons with Vietnamese teachers to learn vocabulary related to Math and Science. Particularly, the lessons with foreign teachers have Vietnamese teaching assistants participating to support teaching and learning effectively.
Students learn English with foreign teachers
In class, teachers always use visual images and videos created specifically for each lesson to teach students or let them play interactive games to create excitement and joy in the learning process. When teaching, teachers always pay attention to, encourage and develop students' teamwork skills through learning activities. Each school year, students also have the opportunity to practice making models and presenting on scientific topics, helping to develop their abilities, strengths and inspire their passion for scientific creativity.
Students participate in activities in the iSMART program
Principal of Vo Thi Sau Primary School (Tan An City) - Nguyen Van Bo said: “The iSMART program has been applied at the school for 5 years now and has brought practical results. The biggest strength of the program is that students get to study with foreign teachers who have the capacity and pedagogical knowledge. From there, students become more proactive and confident in communication, more active in learning. In addition, the school's teachers also learn many good and effective teaching methods to apply to their teaching, especially creating a lively atmosphere for the class.”
In addition, students also participate in fun activities and practice knowledge through collective activities in "English Festival" and "iSMART Science Team". Students can study online on the iSMART system after school. Accordingly, the system provides a diverse library of learning materials, along with practice exercises in the form of both learning and playing. In the system, students have the opportunity to participate in challenges and receive gifts from iSMART.

Thanks to changes in teaching and learning English, students are inspired with a passion for English as well as have more favorable conditions for studying and developing this subject. With a good foundation in English, the path ahead for students is more open, especially the opportunity to access new knowledge in their favorite fields through English tools or to study abroad so that they can return to contribute to their homeland and country./.
