Rice prices in the Mekong Delta did not fluctuate much last week. Meanwhile, export rice prices edged up slightly thanks to increased purchasing activity.
According to the update of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang, the price of some types of rice purchased by traders such as IR 50404 is from 5,500-5,700 VND/kg, an increase of 100 VND/kg; OM 5451 is from 5,800-6,000 VND/kg, Dai Thom 8 (fresh) and OM 18 (fresh) fluctuate from 6,300-6,400 VND/kg, a decrease of 200 VND/kg...
Long An has harvested nearly 63,000/240,000 hectares of 2024-2025 Winter-Spring rice , with an estimated dry yield of 5.8 tons/ha. The estimated output of the 2024-2025 Winter-Spring crop is nearly 1.6 million tons. The 2024-2025 Winter-Spring rice area increased due to the relatively high price of rice in 2024, so farmers sowed the maximum available area in the localities.
However, the current rice purchase price tends to decrease compared to 2024. Specifically, the current price of rice of all kinds fluctuates from 5,400-9,400 VND/kg, down from 500-2,300 VND/kg; profit is 20-35 million VND/ha, about 7-10 million VND/ha lower than the Winter-Spring crop in 2023-2024.
The price of early winter-spring rice in Hau Giang is much lower than the same period last year. Specifically, the Dai Thom 8 rice variety is sold at the field at 6,300-6,500 VND/kg, the OM 5451 variety is at 6,000 VND/kg, and the ST rice variety is at 8,200-8,300 VND/kg. Compared to the same period last year, the selling price of rice is decreasing by an average of 1,500-1,800 VND/kg.
Regarding rice products in the retail market in An Giang, regular rice costs from 15,000-16,000 VND/kg; long-grain fragrant rice from 20,000-22,000 VND/kg; Jasmine rice from 18,000-20,000 VND/kg; common white rice 17,000 VND/kg, Nang Hoa rice 21,500 VND/kg; Huong Lai rice 22,000 VND/kg; Taiwanese fragrant rice 21,000 VND/kg; Soc rice usually fluctuates at 18,000 VND/kg; Soc Thai rice costs 21,000 VND/kg; Japanese rice costs 22,000 VND/kg...

Vietnam's 5% broken rice was quoted at $393 per ton last week, up slightly from last week's price, ending an 11-week price decline, the Vietnam Food Association said.
A trader in An Giang province said demand is increasing again as processors and exporters increase purchases from farmers. However, supply is also increasing as it is the winter-spring crop harvest season.

Meanwhile in the Asian rice market, Indian export prices fell to a 20-month low this week, due to weak demand and abundant inventories.
Last week, India's 5% broken parboiled rice was offered at $413-$420 a tonne, the lowest since late June 2023. Meanwhile, 5% broken white rice was traded at $395-$405 a tonne.
Demand is weakening as buyers have stockpiled enough, amid fierce competition among rice exporting countries for market share, said Nitin Gupta, senior vice president of food company Olam Agri India.
In Thailand, the rice market is somewhat quieter as buyers delay purchases. Currently, the price of 5% broken rice from Thailand is fluctuating around 415-420 USD/ton, not much changed from the price of 420 USD/ton last week.
According to another trader, although rice prices remained almost unchanged, there was upward pressure due to the strengthening baht.
In a related development, the Bangladesh government announced that it has resumed direct trade with Pakistan for the first time since independence in 1971. Under a joint agreement between the two governments, the first consignment of 50,000 tonnes of rice exports departed Pakistan's Qasim port for Bangladesh.
Regarding the US agricultural market, prices of major agricultural products on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) decreased simultaneously in the trading session on February 28; in which corn and wheat were under the strongest downward pressure.
Corn prices fell 11.5 cents to $4.695 a bushel in the final trading session of the week. At the Agricultural Outlook Forum held by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) on February 28, the USDA’s Office of Chief Economist released a report on supply and demand estimates for 2025-2026 showing that US corn acreage, production, and inventories all exceeded trade forecasts, putting downward pressure on prices of this agricultural product.
Additionally, President Donald Trump's tariff threat and a disappointing weekly export sales report also weighed on corn prices.
Similarly, wheat prices closed down 17.25 US cents to $5.625 a bushel. Soybeans fell 4 US cents to $10.375 a bushel (1 bushel of wheat/soybeans = 27.2 kg; 1 bushel of corn = 25.4 kg). Wheat production figures released at the Agricultural Outlook Forum were relatively close to expectations, with 2025-2026 ending stocks estimated at around 826 million bushels, marking the fourth consecutive year of increased US ending wheat stocks.
U.S. 2025-26 ending soybean stocks are forecast at 320 million bushels, lower than trade expectations and down from the 2024-25 forecast of 380 million bushels.
Regarding the world coffee market, coffee prices fell across the world exchanges.
At the London exchange, the price of Robusta coffee for delivery in May 2025 in the session on February 28 reached 5,376 USD/ton, down 34 USD/ton compared to the previous trading session.

On the New York floor, Arabica coffee prices continued to decrease for the fourth consecutive session, with coffee prices for delivery in May 2025 closing at 373.60 US cents/pound, down 1.60 US cents/pound (1 pound = 0.4535 kg).
The stronger dollar weighed on most commodities, including coffee, while yields on 2-year and 10-year U.S. Treasury bonds also rose.
This situation has led traders to predict that a downward correction in coffee prices is possible, especially after the strong increase in the first weeks of 2025, when the market reached a record high of nearly $4.30/pound in early February 2025.
In the domestic market, coffee prices in the Central Highlands region increased by 1,500 VND/kg, with the highest purchase price in this region recorded at 130,500 VND/kg.
Specifically, the coffee price on February 28 in Dak Lak was 130,500 VND/kg, the coffee price in Lam Dong was 128,500 VND/kg, the coffee price in Gia Lai was 130,500 VND/kg and the coffee price in Dak Nong was 130,500 VND/kg./.
