(CLO) On December 5, the working delegation of the Vietnam Journalists Association worked with the leaders of the Can Tho City People's Committee to evaluate the work of improving the role, quality and effectiveness of the City Journalists Association.
Currently, the City Journalists Association has 5 branches and affiliated journalist associations, with 322 active members, including: Can Tho Radio and Television Journalists Association and the Journalists Associations: Can Tho Newspaper, Military Zone 9 Newspaper, Information - Communication, Association Office. In addition, the City Journalists Association also has a Women Journalists Club with 82 members.

Every year, the City Journalists Association coordinates with the City Party Committee's Propaganda Department and the City Department of Information and Communications to organize for members and journalists to study and thoroughly understand the 2016 Press Law so that members and journalists can effectively carry out propaganda work, contributing to building and protecting the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws, and the country's achievements according to the principles and purposes of the press agency.
Since the beginning of the term, the City Journalists Association has proposed and approved the admission of 41 qualified journalists, and awarded 44 medals for the cause of Vietnamese Journalism to its members. The Association has also collected and selected press works of members and journalists working and living at the city's press agencies to participate in the National Press Awards with 189 works. The results include 3 C prizes, 3 Encouragement prizes and 2 works in the final round...
At the meeting, the leaders of the Can Tho City Journalists Association proposed that the Vietnam Journalists Association support activities in the plan to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Vietnam Revolutionary Press, including: organizing exhibitions, displays, and introducing press products on topics related to important events of the country and the Mekong Delta region in Can Tho City; organizing a delegation of Can Tho journalists to return to Thai Nguyen province - the birthplace of the Vietnam Journalists Association, and visit the historical site of Huynh Thuc Khang Journalism School.

At the same time, it is recommended that the City People's Committee direct and support the City Journalists Association in activities to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Vietnam Revolutionary Press; pay attention to supporting the settlement of the City Journalists Association's working headquarters because it is currently seriously degraded, affecting the Association's activities.
Speaking at the meeting, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association Nguyen Duc Loi acknowledged and highly appreciated the activities and positive results of the Can Tho City Journalists Association in recent times. The Association has done a good job of gathering and uniting members and journalists in the area, doing a good job of developing members; organizing training courses on professional skills, political ideology, and professional ethics; no members have violated professional ethics or the law...
The Standing Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association requested that in the coming time, the Can Tho City Journalists Association needs to strengthen the role, position, image, and quality of the Association's activities in the political system; develop and recruit members in the area. The Association continues to pay attention to opening political training courses for journalists, helping journalists to be more politically and ideologically steadfast; support and create conditions for journalists and local press agencies to actively participate in national press awards to raise the status of journalists and local press agencies...
