After many days of staying in the village to clear temporary houses in the mountainous district of Ba To, a group of young soldiers from the Quang Ngai Provincial Police returned and discovered that a woman in labor had stopped her car and became a "midwife" to deliver the baby right on the side of the road.

On February 18, Captain Pham Doan Quoc Hoang - Deputy Head of the Youth Department, Quang Ngai Provincial Police said: "The mother and child that the team discovered and delivered on the street are both safe and sound, we are very happy."
Police go to destroy temporary houses, become "midwives" to deliver babies
Recounting the rare incident, Captain Hoang shared that after four days of the Quang Ngai Provincial Police Youth Union members eating and sleeping with the people, helping to remove temporary and dilapidated houses in Ba Vi commune (the farthest commune of Ba To district, bordering Kon Tum province).
The work was completed, at about 2:30 p.m. on February 17, 16 officers and soldiers of the working group said goodbye to the people and returned to their units.
When arriving at Ba To commune, Ba To district, I saw a young man riding a motorbike carrying a woman at high speed.
"This man kept flashing his lights and passed many other vehicles. We asked each other, wondering what was going on that he was driving so fast. The woman was leaning completely on the man at that time," Captain Hoang shared.
After going a little further, he discovered the motorbike had stopped, the woman was lying on the side of the road, the man seemed panicked and flustered sitting next to the woman. Immediately, Mr. Hoang told the driver to stop the motorbike and called his brothers to get out of the car to help.
"I was sitting in front and saw the woman bleeding profusely. I thought she was having an accident so I urged my brothers to quickly come down and help," said Mr. Hoang.
Approaching the woman, the soldiers realized that she was in labor. Although they did not have much medical expertise, they had taken basic first aid classes. The officers and soldiers of Quang Ngai Provincial Police took turns assisting the woman in giving birth.
"When the baby was born, I thought the first thing to do was to keep the baby warm, so I told my brothers to get a blanket to wrap him up. My husband said there was a blanket here and took it out from the motorbike," said Mr. Hoang.

Beautiful memories on the journey to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses
Next, the group of soldiers spread out a mat, carried the woman to the car and urgently took the mother and child to Ba To District Medical Center.
On the way, Captain Hoang contacted Ba To District Youth Union to go to the medical center to ask for support with a wheelchair and doctors and nurses on duty at the gate to help the mother as quickly as possible.
"The distance from where the pregnant woman was found to Ba To District Medical Center is about 9km. We moved while monitoring the pregnant woman's condition. The most worrying thing is that the mother lost blood after giving birth and the baby still had its umbilical cord intact. I'm afraid that if we leave it too long, it will be dangerous," Captain Hoang confided.

Upon arriving at Ba To District Medical Center, the mother was immediately assisted by a doctor. The newborn girl weighed 3kg and was rosy and feeding well. The doctor reported that the mother and baby were in good condition and took them to the hospital room for further monitoring.
At this time, 16 youth union members of Quang Ngai Provincial Police breathed a sigh of relief. They said goodbye to the couple, got in the car and continued to return to their unit.
Ba To District Medical Center identified the pregnant woman as Y Cung (24 years old, residing in Nuoc Chach village, Ba Xa commune, Ba To district).
"This morning I called Ba To District Medical Center to ask, both mother and child are healthy. I had to become a midwife, but both mother and child are safe, everyone is happy.
This is an unforgettable memory for the young police of Quang Ngai province on their journey to help people eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses," said Mr. Hoang.
