Tonight, Vietnam welcomes a giant supermoon on the Mid-Autumn Festival night.

In Vietnam, the supermoon with absolute roundness will appear at 9:34 am on September 18. Therefore, on the night of September 17, the full moon night of the Mid-Autumn Festival and the early morning of September 18, people and tourists can see the supermoon at its most beautiful state.

On the Mid-Autumn Festival night of September 17, the supermoon will reach a roundness of more than 99%. People observing with the naked eye will not be able to feel the difference with an absolutely full moon.

In particular, the Mid-Autumn Festival night of September 17 and the morning of September 18 are also the last opportunities for people and tourists to see the burnt orange supermoon this year.

This phenomenon is called the harvest moon, which occurs on the full moon closest to the annual autumnal equinox, which is the time when farmers traditionally harvest their crops.

The moon usually hangs low in the summer, which means that in the early evening you'll have to view it through a thick layer of atmosphere, making the moon appear larger and more orange than usual.

According to Time and Date, in Vietnam the super moon will reach its full size at 9:34 a.m. on September 18.

In addition, most of the Americas, all of Europe, Africa and part of Asia will be able to observe another special phenomenon, the "penumbral lunar eclipse", from 7:41 a.m. to 11:47 a.m. on September 18, Vietnam time.

According to the Hanoi Astronomical Society, the moon will reach its full moon phase at 9:34 a.m. on September 18. At the same time, the satellite will also pass through its closest point to the Earth in its geocentric orbit. Such full moons are called “Supermoons,” a term that was coined by astrologers in the late 1970s.

However, if one has the means of astronomical observation or a suitable camera to be able to see the impact craters on the celestial body, the astronomy enthusiast can see a little darkness still covering some craters located on the left edge of the hemisphere facing the earth.

According to NASA, the September full moon will continue the series of four beautiful supermoons of 2024 (August, September, October, November), which is when the full moon coincides with the time it is closest to the Earth in its elliptical orbit, making us see this celestial body larger than usual.

Not to mention, in some places around the world, at certain times, you can see the Mid-Autumn Festival supermoon turning a burnt orange color or a penumbral lunar eclipse.
