Sharing with Thanh Nien during the traditional Tet holiday, Ms. Bach Thi Thien Kim, Director of the Australia - Vietnam Trade Promotion Center, expressed her concern if the situation does not improve. Ms. Thien Kim added that since the end of 2023, before attending the 4th Congress of Delegates of the Association of Vietnamese Businessmen Abroad (term 2023-2028, taking place on January 26-27, 2024 in Ho Chi Minh City), the Vietnam Business Association in Australia (abbreviated as VBAA) and the Australia - Vietnam Trade Promotion Center (Australia Vietnam Trade and Investment Promotion Center) have both conducted cross-Vietnam surveys related to studying in Australia and have a clear understanding of this situation.

Beware of misinformation and "unscrupulous companies"
Ms. Bach Thi Thien Kim shared: "I am very interested in the field of studying abroad. For the field of business and investment, there is usually a private lawyer to advise. As for studying abroad, most of the students are studious students from provinces and regions with little knowledge of the law."
According to Ms. Kim, the students had to pay a large amount of money to study vocational training in Australia, but the study abroad center charged high tuition fees for English language study without quality and learning effectiveness. "Most of the students study and live right at the center, but this is not an English center, it is just their office location. Every day, they study English at the center's admission office, but after more than 8 months, their level has not improved. Most of the students here are from Quang Binh, a province that Australia has put on the list of provinces that cannot apply for a visa to Australia, but the center still keeps them to teach English and extend the time. However, the students still believe that they will get a student visa according to the center's roadmap in early 2024. There are even cases where they have paid a very high amount of money to get a tourist visa to Australia and changed it to a student visa, but most of them cannot change it to a student visa because the conditions of Australia's student visa policy are constantly changing," Ms. Kim informed.
According to the Director of the Australia - Vietnam Trade Promotion Center, false information and "unqualified companies" have been causing suffering for many parents who want their children to have good opportunities to study and work abroad. "Poor parents have to borrow money to pay for their children's education, but when they go, they encounter unqualified companies. The problems we encounter are not only when studying in Australia, but also when studying in Germany, there are many," Ms. Kim said indignantly.
"The same goes for exporting labor to Australia. We know that Australia does not have a policy of accepting labor exports. Australia only recruits highly skilled workers by profession, but centers in Vietnam have advertised themselves as exporting labor to Australia. The information is incorrect and inaccurate, so many people are mistaken. The files given to us this time, including students from Quang Binh, Nghe An, and many provinces that according to the new announcement, Australia has definitely not opened its doors to receive study abroad and tourism applications at the present time. But these students have already paid all their money. They cannot get their money back and they continue to teach English in a way that does not ensure quality. By the time we surveyed, they had been studying English for 8 months, but they still did not have any understanding of English."
Ms. Bach Thi Thien Kim, Director of the Australia - Vietnam Trade Promotion Center, member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Business Association in Australia, presented a symbolic donation of money to support the charity house in Dien Bien province.
Determine why you want to study abroad
According to Ms. Kim, the eternal advice is "you should carefully research information about studying abroad". You yourself must determine why you are studying abroad. To gain knowledge to return to help your family or to get a better job, to escape poverty and change your life. You must clearly define before going to choose a suitable career.
Ms. Kim analyzed: "Don't think that vocational training is something low in society. It is the foundation for you to move up. With Australia's policy, depending on the profession, on average, after 3 years of experience in the field they are working in, workers can convert their experience into a degree equivalent to a college or bachelor's degree. Or office workers who do not have a bachelor's degree, only have a college degree, but after 3 years of working in a specialized field, they will be able to study for a master's degree without having to study for a bachelor's degree."
Ms. Kim added: "Moreover, when students study abroad in Australia, in addition to common part-time jobs such as waiting tables and kitchen assistants, they can also do jobs such as taking care of the elderly, babysitting, making coffee, and working as a dental assistant. Students only need to study a short-term certificate to be able to apply for a job at a job placement center with a higher salary and can choose to work by the hour, not depending on time."
The Director of the Australia - Vietnam Trade Promotion Center hopes that Vietnamese businesses should cooperate with units of the Business Association to confirm whether those schools are as advertised by the study abroad companies and have the capacity to recruit international students. According to Ms. Kim, in addition to the Business Association, the Vietnam Trade Office in Australia is also the place that supports international students the most.
As Thanh Nien reported, by the afternoon of February 11, 2024, the South Australian Department of Education and the study abroad consulting company that represents the state in Vietnam informed that South Australia decided to temporarily stop accepting Vietnamese students from Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Quang Binh. At the same time, it tightened enrollment with 6 localities: Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Dak Lak, Lam Dong and Dong Nai.
