(CLO) The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) confirmed that it is investigating a series of violent threats targeting members of President-elect Donald Trump's transition team and cabinet.
Several cabinet nominees have been targeted by bomb threats and “swatting” — the practice of falsely reporting a serious crime in order to trigger a strong police response to the victim’s home or workplace, according to Karoline Leavitt, a spokeswoman for the transition team.

“Last night and this morning, several of Donald Trump’s cabinet nominees and their families were targeted with violent, undemocratic threats,” Leavitt said.
The FBI quickly took action, stating: "We are aware of bomb threats and swatting targeting incoming cabinet members and candidates. The FBI is working with law enforcement to investigate the incident."
Elise Stefanik revealed that her New York home – where she, her husband and 3-year-old son were planning to spend Thanksgiving – was targeted with a bomb threat. She credited the quick response of local police and Congress:
"Law enforcement responded professionally and effectively, ensuring the safety of my family and the community."
President-elect Donald Trump is no stranger to political violence. He has been the target of assassination attempts at least twice during this year’s campaign.
In July, a bullet grazed his ear while he was speaking in Butler, Pennsylvania. In September, an armed man was arrested outside his golf course in Florida.
Leavitt emphasized the transition team's determination in the face of threats: "With President Trump as our example, we will not let intimidation and violence stop us from moving forward."
With the inauguration scheduled for January 20, law enforcement agencies are stepping up security measures to ensure the safety of the President-elect and his team.
