On the morning of September 7, Dr. Trinh Trung Phong, Head of the Department of Internal Medicine, Quang Nam General Hospital, said that doctors had just successfully removed a foreign object, a corn kernel, from the trachea of a 50-year-old male patient.

Foreign body is corn kernel
Immediately afterwards, Mr. D. was taken to Quang Nam General Hospital by his family for emergency treatment in a state of choking, chest pain, difficulty breathing, agitation and restlessness.
Through examination and chest CT scan, doctors discovered a foreign object in the trachea.
The patient was then given emergency tests and transferred to the Department of Surgical Anesthesia. Here, doctors performed endoscopy and successfully removed the foreign object, a corn kernel, from the trachea.
According to Dr. Phong, situations of foreign bodies in the airways are very common in daily life and at all ages. One of the common cases is due to crying or laughing while eating or drinking. In cases of foreign bodies but not handled promptly, it will be life-threatening.
