In addition to Mr. Noda, this time the CDPJ President election also has the participation of 3 other candidates: former Chief Cabinet Secretary Edano Yukio, current leader Izumi Kenta and female congresswoman Yoshida Harumi.
Kyodo News Agency reported that speaking to the press after his victory, Mr. Noda expressed his thanks to those who supported him and said he would make efforts to create a "new wind" in the CDPJ, including reforming the party's leadership and promoting dialogue with other opposition parties in Japan in a spirit of sincerity and openness.
Regarding the next Lower House election, the new CDPJ leader said that he will try to maximize the number of seats in the Lower House, aiming to break the majority of the current ruling coalition of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and the Komeito Party.
According to the former Japanese Prime Minister, what needs to be done right now is to best prepare for the extraordinary National Assembly session at the end of this year as well as start preparing personnel for the House of Representatives election that may take place earlier than expected.
Mr. Noda Yoshihiko, born in 1957, has been the 95th Prime Minister of the "Land of the Rising Sun" since September 2011, after winning the election for President of the Democratic Party of Japan (then the ruling party).
According to the plan, on September 24, Mr. Noda will announce the new leadership of CDPJ and chair a joint meeting with CDPJ parliamentarians.
